Hey all, Got my AGA T2 in the post today, I don't know why but I expected it to already be set up. Anyway I have all the stuff I need and it came with a bit of wire and some mesh so I tried making a coil. All seemed to be going well, the wire is .20 nichrome. I have watched a few videos on how to make a coil and I managed what I thought was a decent job but when I measure the resistance it is low. I am doing 4/5 turns and initially the resistance is coming up 2.4 on my multimeter but my Vamo is saying 2.2 and then when I fire it I get a bad hotspot near the top terminal, the next time I try to fire the Vamo says lo and the resistance reads 1.1.

I have made the top wire shorter and the hot spot isnt as bad but I am still getting one fire out of it before it loses the resistance and says Lo again, so what am I doing wrong? There is no wire touching anything but the terminals and the coil, I flamed the coil beforehand and I burned the wick over the hob 3 times and burned some eliquid on it before building it.

Just one thing and I know some may disagree but between each burn dunk the wick in cold water this does seem to make the oxidization better. Ah and one other when I was in my discovery days if you are wrapping the wire too tight this can create top hotspots, I tried the drillbit method and others but in the end wrapping the coil by hand seem to be the trick for me. It might take many attempts to find the right tension the onlt important part is to make sure that the coil has the lightest but full contact with the wick. Persist many people who started rebuilding encountered this, but as you get more experience it will work.

Hope all goes well

Simon

Hey Cobra thanks, I was making the coil too tight, I made another but looser and it seems ok now, still only getting 1.8ohms on the coil but it is vaping. Might need some .16 wire.

One more question, how long will a stainless wick and coil last and how long to get a good flavour out of it? I mean this tastes okay, no real burning flavour or anything but it is not what I expected.

totally depends on juice, the taste generally gets to the right level in a couple days - week and the wicks usually last 2-3 weeks(well except i got this chocolate vg mix that destroys any wick in 1 day lol...) but as a beginner your coils will probably develop hotspots every few days at first so you're going to be fiddling for weeks before you really get it down :D best hold on to your towel.
