So after reading about batteries venting, I've just checked my two stingray x mods and they only vent from the bottom where the button is and not at the top, is this normal/safe? Thanks in advance

Do batteries only vent from the top then? I thought from both ends?

Yes.
The top centimeter or so sometimes expands before the vent. This is what causes the problem of gas not being to reach the vent holes.
There are videos on youtube of people deliberately venting batteries to see what hapens.

used my stingray x mods for a very long time with battery pos upwards, never had an issue, but i have also always made sure that when using the hybrid adaptor, the atty 510 positive sticks out enough to ensure no shorting.

i also cover the underside of the hybrid adaptor in sellotape as an extra precaution.

Personally I would not use the batteries "upside down".
The reason for this is that if there is any damage to the battery wrapper and the battery is in + side up then you get an auto fire which is a slow failure scenario. The negative circuit would be completed.
Positive side down and the same situation occurs then the whole body of the mod is the + and you have a hard short and a very rapid failure scenario.

Ideally you would have vent holes in the side of the tube both top and bottom to allow for the battery swelling and blocking the bottom vents, many will vent through the sides of the top cap as well but this does vary a lot depending on the design of the mod.
