ALL Tanks/Coils taste burnt??

Hi there, hoping you all can give me some guidance as google has been no help.

So I have been using the Smok RPM 2 for around 2 months now and everything has been fine, changing out my coils when needed and trying different liquids to see what I like.

(To give slightly more detail, I have been vaping 80/20 VG/PG due to the sub-ohm coils of the RPM2 at 3mg nicotine and using anywhere between 30 and 45 watts).

Over the course of yesterday and today, all my tanks started tasting burnt or flavourless and slightly burnt. All of them.
I have around 6 tanks in total, some 7ml, some 2ml, some with older coils that haven't been used as much, some with coils I have put in today and let sit for 15 or so mins. All of them taste burnt.

I may add that I got a bad hit from a vape earlier as the juice ran out (doesn't usually happen but was caught off guard), and after coughing and spluttering was fine - I don't think this is behind the burnt taste of all my tanks/coils as the tanks generally taste under average but ok for the first inhale, then very quickly starts to taste burnt or flavourless and slightly burnt.

Could this be something to do with the atomizer or battery??

I am truly perplexed as all of my tanks tasted fine when I last used them, and for all 6/7 tanks/coils to start tasting burnt at the same time (including tanks with brand new coils as of today after proper preparation) seems really fishy.

Thanks in advance

Just a thought here,if you've got a empty tank any juice without nic see what that's like it could be your ready to drop your nic level.just a thought ,it happend to me a few years ago I couldn't figure it out really.i tried a mates juice which was lower nic any it tasted perfect.might be worth a try.

It’s possible that the 80/20 is to thick a juice and isn’t saturating the cotton and feeding the coil correctly. Maybe change to 50/50

it could be poor priming the coil off the bat

could be you have a bad batch of coils, buy new from a different vendor

my money would be the juice is too thick as you get a ok vape when they have been primed and new also the burnt taste is a dry hit meaning the cotton in the coil isn’t saturated in juice.

Hi @Tyn and welcome to the planet.

as its happening to all tanks and coils i recon youve burnt your throat with the dry hit and its knakered your tastebuds.

strange that its only just started but tbh 80vg may well be too thick for the coils. also what nic shot are you adding? 100vg, 70/30 or 50/50. i dont use smok for a reason but of the 45 tanks i have got i never use 100vg nic and now buy 70vg nic shots.

also for a new coil do you fill up, leave for a while then turn right up to your max wattage of 30-45w and then vape away. if yes then not a good idea as you need to bed the coil in. start at 20w and turn up every couple of puffs so the coil slowly beds in and they should last longer.

edit
once youve had a dry hit and cough your guts up then best to dump the coil. not happened to me in over 5 years but ive just remembered that the taste lingered to other tanks i used after the dry hit.

its all guess work at the mo but hopefully we can get to the bottom of the problem.

Sorry good also be your juice has a lot of sweetener in it gunking the coil which is also worse with thick juice

80VG is very thick juice for tanks using stock coils, and it will be even thicker if the tank is colder recently due to cold weather. This could be the reason.
