I read his book, the 'Easy-way', many years ago and whilst it didn't work for me it was an interesting approach to challenge the nicotine 'monster' inside our minds.
I am aware of friends and relatives who had success with his method.....at least for a time. I remain cynical about the claim to have 'cured' 10,000,000 smokers. I wonder whether he ever had an opinion on ecigs or other smoke free alternatives to tobacco.

I read it and it worked for me (well for 5 years). I agree with his assessment about nicotine not being that addictive ie. we can go to bed and sleep for 8 hours and not have to wake up for a fag coz our bodies "physically" need it, as oppose to say heroin withdrawal when you'd HAVE to wake up because of the physical withdrawal symptoms.
Agree, not sure on the figures quoted though.

My sister in law went to one of his seminars. She was sceptical, and like everyone else in the room she smoked through the whole event. She came out if it and has never smoked again. She did say that for the first few weeks she lingered by the cigarette kiosk in the supermarket but never bought anything. I don't know what the say in these seminars but it most certainly worked for her. It's very sad that Allen Carr died because of the passive smoking during his life saving meetings.
(personally I didn't get passed page 1 of his book and don't know how successful the book was in terms of results, but it certainly sold well!).

His book stopped me for a year or so, can't remember why I started again.

He died in 2006 though, for some reason it's been bumped to most read article on the BBC news website again.

They probably think it's 'chatty man' Alan Carr!

Bizarre. Didn't notice the date on that report. I was having trouble sleeping and wasn't very alert

It happens quite often! I think someone on big sites like reddit or something posts it so loads of people click the link which makes it rise in the 'most read' section.

His books basically reprogram your mind to not want to smoke anymore by highlighting how little smoking actually does for you and how the withdrawal effects are actually inconsequential.

It's also highly likely that his cancer was caused by him smoking 100 a day for years and very unlikely that it was caused by passive smoking later in life.

I noticed this too @Mark, this dragging of old news (happening a lot lately) seems to usually be linked to a current article on the beeb website even if it's not linked on the webpage ... and lo and behold http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-25544102 being discussed here http://www.planetofthevapes.co.uk/forums/showthread.php/25285-bbc-news

Allen Carr didn't work for me...
Schoolboy error really. Thinking about it I recall the news he had died years ago. Doh! As Purplefowler says it's probably something to do with the annual new year resolution crusade soon to be upon us. I'm so looking forward to all the big Pharma ads for useless NRT products and NHS quit kits/promotion of 'support' services
