never good to see these stories because it makes some people over react.

fact is anything that has a battery can go bang, its not nice but it can and dose happen. the media just jump on it when its an ecig cos they are the new craze.

wonder if any of the people who over react to these types of story ever sleep with their phone on charge under their pillow lol

Looks like yet another example of the wrong charger used for the battery. The non regulated chargers just ought to be banned.

Lazy reporters are starting to point blame at ecigs for just about everything lately. Phones/laptops etc, pretty much anything that has a battery can cause fires, but even if it was the wife's dildo batteries exploded the media would report it as "ecig exploded and burnt toddlers bedroom" etc.

From Twitter

'Nope, it's a quality e-cig battery, but was charged with a gen 1 charger that puts out 5V instead of 4.2'

Makes sense

What a fuckin' shame that e-cig accidents have become fashionable press. Even more of shame that, for reasons best known by others, the e-cig world has to keep looking over it's shoulder and being whiter than white, whereas far more dangerous leisure receive zero press and no tainted lime light.
We can (and often rightly so) blame user error, but as with all things "consumer" just because you a thick ( I don't mean this in a disrespected or derogatory way, just couldn't think of a more appropriate word) doesn't mean that you should not be allowed to use an item.
Manufacturers and distributors carry 9 tenths of the onus.

I trust that the result of all these stories is that Trading Standards takes appropriate action and if not, why not?

+1 ^^^

Its crazy

I have been into motocross for 20+ years and there have been numerous serious accidents every year but have not seen it reported once on the news, not even when necks/backs are broken

Plus there are no safety instructions or restrictions to buy a competition race bike that is very much capable of leaving you with life long injuries or worse

yet they are jumping on e-cigs that are saving lives and the nhs time/money

am I missing summit here or does the big tobacco companies own the news channels

Just to make myself feel better before going to bed I googled "usb charger explodes UK" and every one of the resulting "news hits" described the explosions (from e-cigs, mobiles, and other devices) as being caused by unbranded, unsafe, chargers.

And to make myself feel even better I found this little gem from some Kent newspaper "Two men were taken to hospital with burns to their face and chest after trying to light a barbecue with fuel meant to be used to power remote control cars. " which just shows that not all twats are vapers! :yahoo:

I use a charger with a digital read-out that makes a high pitch sound when they're fully charged. I have it plugged into a timer which is normally set to 2 or 3 hours (depending on how low the batteries are) before it cuts off.

Link for the 24hr timer plug
