What's new

Any teachers in the house?

The default position of schools is always to ban something these days, just to be safe. One of the many reasons I quit after enjoying many years in the classroom.

Our kids' school has already banned them from the entire site.

My g/f is training to be a teacher after years of being a classroom assistant. She Vapes but feels the need to do so stealthily and not in front of the kids. Fair do's. Myself I have happy memories of the aroma of pipe smoke and rollies emanating from the staff room. I once had the cane on my hand by the headmaster (along with a group of other boys amongst whom I happened to have been during some bout of misbehaviour I never even witnessed let alone got involved with) in between puffs on his Bruno ready rubbed. Him. Not me. Obviously. That would be silly.

Good luck to her, if you get a good school with a good Head it's the most fulfilling job you can do. :)

my geography teacher used to smoke a pipe when we were in class didnt bother anyone at all ah them were the days

I was going passed my boys school during morning break and there were 3 teachers by the gate smoking and then they were joined by another who pulled an ego from her bag. I knew then that my kids are in good hands!

I used to be an Instructor, teaching trainees all about Weapons and Electrical systems on Helicopters, so my situation is different to a point.
Lots of trainees used to smoke, as did i, although now more and more of them are switching to basic ego devices.
According to new MoD rules we are not allowed to vape indoors anywhere on base so we are outside with smokers.
Just seeing the younger generation take up vaping is great!

Slightly off topic but one bored evening I found myself watching Pound Wars or something similar and the fight against shoplifters. The store in question took on a security guard. He was clearly wearing an ego on a lanyard around his neck. We didn't see him use it but sign of the times. Apologies to the OP. Oh it's me ;)

This appears to be the blueprint for advice to schools on the issue of ecig use on school premises. Some guff, some balance?

We strongly recommend reading the different resources and recommendations produced by ASH, NICE and the MHRA

Quelle surprise

You only have to look at the illustration at the top of that document and see the label that says 'when the smoker takes a drag' to see the biased and ill informed perceptions of whoever designed it.

I see it recommends the MHRA advice. That should mean regulated pharma devices should be freely available to any kids of 12 years and above within a few years and schools would probably run the risk of legal action if they prevented kids from using 'medicinal' devices, especially if they had been prescribed by a doctor.

The irony and hypocrisy of the situation that seems to be on the horizon is worthy of Orwell's 4 legs good, 2 legs bad/2 legs good or Brass Eye's good aids/bad aids satire. As long as the kids use 'good nicotine' that has been rendered 'safe' by the issuing of a piece of paper to the manufacturer then it'll probably be fine, but anything else should be regarded as 'bad nicotine' and immediately be treated as a potential biohazard.

Program the teachers with the 'official' line early so that they will be primed and ready to pass on that programming to the children under their care and set them up with a nice foundation of misinformation and prejudice... after all, we wouldn't want the kids capable of independent/analytical thinking now would we?
