Hello,

I have an Argus GT box mod that when charging through USB C, it takes very long time to charge.

For example, at the moment, it had been connected to an 18W charger for at least 40 minutes without any increase in the battery %.

I have tried different chargers, different battery sets and I usually charge overnight using Nitecore charger but sometimes I need a boost while on the go and the USB C charging is almost useless.

Any hints?

If you’ve tried different USB-C cables. I’ve found USB-to USB-C cables won’t charge some mods. It may be your charger. What is the max charge rating (amps) of the chargers you’ve tried.

I’m not sure at the moment but I recall that one of them used QC3 & produced 3A

One question is what batteries are you using and how old are they?

If they are old and past their best there will be high internal resistance when charging and an artificially high 'surface charge' - this can cause tired batteries to get hot during charging (particularly if you are trying to charge them fast) if the board detects this it could be reducing the charge. Some high capacity, low Amp 18650s aren't suitable for fast charging.

I have a few old batteries that I only use for low power MTL. If I try to charge them fast my charger display will flash and display a recommended maximum charge that is lower than the rate I have selected. I have tried to fast charge out of curiosity - after a few minutes my charger reduced the charge to a trickle as the batteries were getting uncomfortably warm.

If your battery charger detects high resistance or high charging temperature it could be reducing the charge rate automatically (my cheap Xtar VC2 USB charger does this even though it is a basic model) so if you charge overnight you wouldn't notice as even at a slow charge rate they will be fully charged by the next morning - if your mod detects high temperatures or high charging resistance it could be doing the same thing and reducing the charging rate. If this happens it will be very noticeable if you are waiting for your mod to charge them.

In all honesty I don't think it will be your batteries, but if you have bought batteries from a re-wrap company (or from eBay that is flooded with fakes) it could be the problem as rewrap companies they have a tendency to buy the cheapest junk donor cells possible and print ridiculously inflated claims of their capabilities to sell them to the unsuspecting. Re-wrap companies rely on brightly coloured wraps with ridiculous performance claims to sell - generally the batteries are awful. eBay is just a minefield when it comes to batteries.

What Brand of batteries are you using and what are the Amps and Mah capacities printed on the outer wraps?

Well that should be okay for fast charging. Have you tried different cables?

Yes, I tried at least 4 different cables.

ironically, today after this post I also noticed that every time I disconnect and reconnect the charger, the battery % becomes lower than the previous time without even using the mod

Thank you for the details, I use 2x Efest batteries which are almost 2 months old, 3000 mah, 3.7V but no Amps printed.

My spare pair are Sotto, about 18 months old, 3000mah, 50A pulse discharge.

Both sets were bought new, could be fake though, but probably not both sets are.

Not sure whether either are sold in your market or not but over here, both are known brands.

I recall that I forgot my Nitecore charger while I was staying over and a friend’s and I used a normal charger to charge my mod over night. woke up in the morning to find out that the mod is not fully charged!

Also one last note here, today after leaving the mod connected to the fast charger for about 40 minutes, the mod was not anywhere near worm, let alone hot.

All you're proving is the mod is not to be relied on for battery charging, use a dedicated charger and carry a spare battery in a case if one doesn't last you.
