It's very good if a bit messy.

For threads I use Isopropyl Alcohol with an old toothbrush.

I have no idea what the best or easiest way is.

I use brasso followed by servisol super 10 switch cleaning lubricant on contacts and threads.

Other methods may or may not be better or easier, but not having tried them I would not know.
