Hi @
Scooby and welcome to the planet
My first bit of kit was an evod tank and an ego battery: on my first few drags I coughed and spluttered and wondered if I was missing something too, I think most of us do. One of the things to remember is to take slow gentle pulls instead of the normal drag you'd take on a tobacco cigarette: it takes a few days to get used to, especially as you're faced with all the new kit too, but you'll get there soon and be vaping like a pro'.
Also, instead of taking it straight down into your lungs, take a small slow pull for a few seconds into your mouth rather than straight down and then take it into your lungs, that might help too.
As you get more used to vaping, you'll be able to take more vapour in and 'lung inhale' where you take it straight into your lungs - don't try that yet for a wee while as you'll not only cough, but it'll probably make you a bit dizzy too!
Taking slow drags also means that you aren't pulling too much juice into the wicks and consequently the inner tube of your tank - you'll get a very, very crackly sound and possibly hot droplets of juice in your mouth if this happens - you'll find that a vaper's best mate is a tissue - every so often take a corner and roll it too a point, then poke this gently into the mouth piece and tube and this will take up any condensation from the vapour and spits of juice.
I forgot to add - Vaping will dehydrate you faster than smoking did, so do make sure you drink plenty of fluids, especially water to keep hydrated. You might find that it dries your skin too on your face, so get some good moisturiser or aqueous cream from your chemist.
