The Digiflavor Z1 SBS Kit

https://www.sourcemore.com/digiflavor-z1-sbs-kit-with-siren3-gta.html

Code to get it for $51.18 is Z1SBS

The Z1 is a side by side mod that goes up to 80w. It takes a single 18650 battery and comes packed with the Siren 3 tank, which is predominantly pushed as an MTL tank but also gives a great lowish wattage restricted DL as well up to about 30/40w.

In the box you get:
1 Z1 SBS Mod
1 Siren3 GTA
1 Type-C Cable
1 DF Triangular Tool
1 Spare Parts Pack
1 Spare Glass Tube
1 4 in 1 Wire (16 coils)
1 Pack of cotton
1 User Manual

There’s an amazing amount of stuff for the tank. You get a whole little box of clapton style coils with 4 each of 4 different resistances of coil. A little pack of cotton is included, with the usual spare glass and screwdriver. There’s also the usual pack of o-rings and screws as well.

Function wise it’s nice and simple. 3 clicks will take you to a basic menu that gives you 3 options, volt, power and bypass. And that’s it. No TC mode or confusing auto modes. Holding the adjustment buttons for a time will lock the wattage and once locked if you press the fire button 3 times that will also lock the fire button so it’s safe in your pocket, a nice feature that a lot of mods don’t seem to have these days.

The styling of the mod is nice. It’s got that industrial type look that I love and is simply branded with only a couple of little digiflavor badges that look as if they’re screwed to the side of the mod to show who made it. The one I got was the abalone shell and the design is clearly just a sticker on each side of the mod. It doesn’t seem to be a panel like a lot of other mods. It’s not an issue as it’s stuck on well, looks really good and shimmers nicely in the light. There’s a cut away for the battery tube and that helps with ergonomics. The fire button is placed as such that it’s best to fire with your middle finger and there’s a red accent around the fire button on mine that looks really nice to me, I just love that for some reason. The mod is built to take 24mm tanks and the Siren 3 is a 24mm tank. I have tried a couple of 22mm tanks and they don’t look as snug or nice on it but still work really well. Funilly enough my Profile RDTA fits perfectly and looks decent. I’ve put a pic of that below. The kit comes with a USB Type C cable and the charging port is on the bottom of the mod, probably a con for some but I always charge my batteries externally so it really doesn’t matter to me where the port is.

The Siren 3 tank is, as noted, a 24mm tank. It’s touted as an MTL tank but I’ve found the airflow allows it to be used as a really good restricted DL tank as well. It’s quite rare that a tank designed for both styles of vaping works well both ways but Digiflavor have managed it here. For some reason I can’t find the capacity of the tank but I’d estimate it to be about 3/3.5ml. There’s a cyclops airflow ring that can expose 5 different sized holes for full airflow and a single hole further round so you can dial it to one of the holes for more control on MTL.

And the MTL experience is nice on this tank. You can dial it right down to get a tight tight draw or open it up fully for a lungful of mainly air. I usually use airflow fully open on an MTL tank as I like a really airy draw but I found myself having to cut off a couple of the holes so I could get a draw I like. It really does go from one extreme to the other and that’ll be great for someone who’s trying to find their sweet spot. The one con I found is the drip tip. I know a few folk will hate it. I don’t mind it too much as it lends itself quite well to a RDL draw but I imagine proper MTL fans will want to change it out as it’s got a wider bore than a lot of the MTL driptips I’ve used myself.

In use the mod is simple and works really well. The battery life is great when using the tank MTL and decent enough RDL as well. The tank is good for both RDL and MTL and it is easy to fit a coil and wick. The wicking is very forgiving in this tank so you can just chuck it in and vape away, which is nice for an MTL tank as I find them a bit finnicky at times.

The included coils all come in 2.5mm or 2mm sizes and I found that they do work really well. I’ve used one of each and found that the 1.0ohm fused clapton SS coil was my favourite for MTL and the 0.5 Ni80 clapton was the best for RDL. You also get a 0.65 SS fused clapton and a 1.2ohm 4 core fused clapton Ni80 in the pack and they work well too. I have experimented with my own wire and found that if you’re using a 3mm diameter coil you will have to thin the cotton a bit as the wicking holes are quite restrictive and more set up for the smaller diameter coils. With a bit of thinning and fluffing you can get it wicked well though and a 3mm coil is good for a bit of lower wattage RDL vaping. I still preferred the 2.5mm though and have set it up for that.

In all the Z1 SBS kit is fantastic for both new users and for those who want a nice simple mod for MTL. The tank is very versatile for an MTL tank and I have really enjoyed using it. I’m sending this one to another POTV member but I am seriously thinking about buying one once I go back to the office as it’ll be perfect for that.

Thanks for the review mate. Nice simple setup that just seems to work.

Great review @Gitchy. I'm glad you liked it too, I'm in almost total agreement with everything you've said, it's certainly and underrated little kit.

It's interesting you had a bit of trouble with 3mm coils though.

I've tried 3mm's of between 4 and 8 wraps and had no problems with fitment or wicking at all.

I changed the cotton yesterday and it was in there pretty tightly even when saturated, so I wasn't particularly miserly. The airflow didn't seem affected either. Did you use a different cotton?

An odd thing I've noticed on the tank though is that one of the posts doesn't seem to seat properly. It seems to be the same on them all so isn't just mine. It's not loose but I wonder if there's a bit of a design flaw there?

Is yours like it too?

Best of wishes, my friend.

This is why I like to see other people's thoughts on things and other people's reveiews. I did find it a bit tight to wick with a 3mm coil. Maybe I just used too much cotton wicking the 3mm. I got a good draw but when I took the deck out to have a look some of the cotton was still dry, and that was with putting about 1ml though it as well. I didn't just have a look after a couple of draws. I rewicked a couple of times and tried it without combing again on one of them and got the dry cotton again so just combed the other times. I found with a 2.5mm coil you can just fire the cotton in willy nilly and it wicks perfectly. Such a forgiving tank with no real faff at all.

I did notice there's a tiny gap at the bottom of one of the posts but it doesn't affect the tank at all. I just assume it was the way it was designed.

That's really odd @Gitchy, my cotton saturates perfectly with the 3mm. I'm using 70/30 too so it can't really be the viscosity. We'll just have to put it down as one of life's mysteries. :hmm::)

I am quite cack handed with my wicking so it's probably just me. :D

I'm still very much a beginner when it comes to RTA's though so you should be better than me!

Yeah I'm lazy. I like an RTA where you can just fire a wick in and not worry about having to adjust it. I thought the Siren 3 was amazing for that with a 2.5mm coil. Saying that, I can tinker when I need to but I'd rather just fire a wick in and leave it.

Nice review mate, you get a lot with the kit, 16 coils! should last a while.

Yeah I really liked the 0.5 coil out of the 4 types you get. Was a bit reluctant to change it but I had to try out several different ones to see what the tank is really like. Didn't put in the review but it's just as good with some plain round kanthal as it is with the claptony type coils.
