A defective spring connecting the 510 connector with the positive pole in the deck caused serious overheating. With a 10 watt setup, the spring got hot enough to deform & become soft. I also thought it looked possible for the spring to become displaced, which would cause a direct short.
Easy remedy by making a cylindrical insulator from an old clearomizer and fitting a new spring, which in my case came from a Hafele kitchen cupboard latch. OK, a proper hot spring would have been better, but I'm a skinflint and the voltage drop is negligible.
I bought the atty from Hog Vaping, where Garry & Barb have given unstinting support. My observations are going to the Chinese supplier, who says they'll "put their engineers on it" . Actually, I think it's a great little atty, and for the price, it's been worth every penny, with or without the hassle over the spring.
