Just had a heads up from a community across the pond on the latest Efest scandal, after the 2500 mah's were falsely rated for 30amps.

Taken from the article -
"EFEST recurred, this time more dangerous, labelling its 3100mAh battery continuous discharge 20A, thus supporting theoretically securely 0.25 ohm resistance. Dampfakku showed that these Efest Purple 20A are actually Panasonic continuous discharge cells supporting 4A (!) And maximum (and therefore for a short time), 6.4 A. The limit for the resistors in order to vaper safely with these batteries is not 0.25 ohm but above 0.8ohm ... what makes a big difference. The cells used by EFEST 3100mAh "20A" are those of Panasonic NCR18650BE"

Stay safe people, if you're sub ohming only settle for VTC4/5's!

And what the original post I got wind of this from said -
"I can't remember if this was previously posted for the 2500mAh or 3100mAh purple Efest batteries, but I'll post again in the interest of safety.
Turns out Efest is once again labelling their rewrapped batteries with dangerous amp limits (even worse than the 2500mAh ones!) They're claiming their 3100mAh (purple) 18650's are rated for 20A, which is absolute bullshit. DampfAkkus has tested them and found they are only rated for 4A continuous/6.5 pulsed max discharge! Once again, the purple Efest 3100mAh batteries are not 20A batteries, they're 4A/6.5A max! Efest is notorious for playing a bit fast and loose with their battery specs after they rewrap them, but this is probably the most dangerous thing they've ever done! Apparently these particular cells are rewrapped Panasonic NCR18650BE's."

If this is true then its just shocking, and bloody dangerous!

Ive always used Sony cells for low ohm builds, and will continue to do so!

More than likely fakes. I read somewhere that over 90% of batteries are Panasonics. They are reject laptop batteries and the best ones are scooped up by AW, Efset etc.

Sony, apparently, re-grade their laptop batteries and their "rejects" go to VTC5's, so these are one level up from the others which is what makes them so good. But they are still Panasonics............

No matter What battery I use-I have AW-MNKE-Sony-and Efest I think they are all authentic but I still will not use a build below around .5 ohm just to cover my ass!

I've had a 0.22ohm build fire for 2-3 minutes straight after forgetting to lock it and boy ohh boy was my mod hot! Dismantled it straight away and my VTC5 was still cool to the touch, maybe slightly warmer than usual but nothing compared to the mod. Can't see myself using anything else unless something significantly better comes out in future.

So if even VTC5s are rejects, how do we vapers go about getting the top notch ones or is the only way to rip apart a new sony laptop battery.

My solution to the issue of manufacturers/relabellers selling cells that are likely to cause myself/others severe injury was to cease buying 18650 type cells & instead buy lipo cells with a 20C rating, which I connect in parallel to obtain the required MaH rating I require & also the added benefit of 1 x 20C,2 x 20C etc thus enabling me to draw upto 80 amps without any worries over the cells. As these cells I use are also used by modelers who require massive current draws,my chances of reaching anything like 1/3rd of the maximum whilst vaping simply don't exist.I also have a mosfet to protect the switch, which tends to blow if I accidentally subject the cells to a short circuit and the resistor across the mosfet also seems to prevent me from over-discharging my lipo cell packs.Charging the cell packs is also as safe and simple as can be,I use a USB charge PCB and if I need to charge the cells overnight, the box mod is left outside in a concrete shed where if it vents, the only thing that gets burnt is the charger & the box mod.

I wonder what Efest would do if their cells were to seriously injure someone and it was proved that they were at fault by labeling a cell as 35 amp when it should only be under 1/3rd of that?

Buy from a trusted vendor. Avoid chinese sites.
Here in the states I only buy from Orbtronics. On your side of the pond you have torchy the battery boy as a trusted vendor. And more.
