This post is basically a redo of the page I've just written for our website which is over here.
So I've now spent about a week vaping both the Erlkönigin(EK) and it's new little brother, the ErlPrinz(EP). The biggest thing to take away from what I've noticed is that vape quality wise they are practically identical. Side by side with the same* build there was very very little difference.
(it's not possible to make 2 builds on 2 RBAs the same but I got them as close as I could, and the slight differences I noticed were well within the margins of one build beig ever so slightly different than the other)
this is both good and bad news. The good news is obvious, the bad news is that the ErlPrinz has the same steep learning curve when you first try to build a coil in it. You need to use the same technique as the EK. Though like any build once you have it down it's very easy from then on to do it again.
OK OK here are some pictures. (click them or tap them to make them bigger)
If you take the thing apart to rebuild it this is what you get. You can see that, the build decks look very similar, the chimney has no serial number, the tank is the same, the top caps are a little different, and the drip tip is the same. In day to day use the top cap is the most annoying thing about the whole atomiser, as now it has no teeth for the shutter cap to only twist to 45degrees. This makes the top cap a lot trickier to unscrew, I ended up using pliers to undo it. It's not a huge issue, as you only have to open the top when you rebuild, but it is still an annoyance.
top cap close up, yo can see the underside of the shuttercap and the top side of the top cap.
Base section. 2 immediately obvious differences, the EP uses an allen key to unscrew the positive post, the EK uses a flat head screw (no I do not know what Chinas fetish is for using allen screws, or including a little baggie with the atomiser that has a tiny cross head screwdriver with tiny blue plastic handle and an allen key of appropriate size, maybe they bought a job lot from somewhere and are desperate to shift them) also the airflow slots on the EP are shallower and less numerous, though the airflow on it seems just fine in use.
So while the build deck looks similar, when you take it apart some differences emerge. The positive posts are different and not interchangeable. On the EP the post has the insulator on it, on the EK the deck has the insulator, and they are shaped differently.
While the makers don't guarantee that EK parts will work on an ErlPrinz I tested lots of them and drip tips, tanks, chimneys all seem to fit. I was able to use the Nano tank on my ErlPrinz just fine for example.
That's about it. Whether you get one of these for £36.99 before discounts from me or EUR39.90+shipping from the makers, or find a clone of the Erlkonigin is up to you if you're in the market for a cheaper EK type atomiser. It's still, for me, the best flavour I've had from a tank, as usual with any rebuildable though if you put a bad build in it you'll get bad results, so YMMV.
