Hi All,

I took the plunge and after reading loads of threads here, I bought a starter kit from Alchemist's Cupboard. Rather than trying to replicate a recipe I thought I'd just try my own. I love Vanilla Custard so I got some with the kit and some Strawberries and Cream which I like too.

I mixed a 75%VG/25% PG mix i.a.w. the instructions, (the Nic is VG based and the flavours are PG) and 50/50 VC/SC.

I couldn't wait and tried it, it's amazing! Love it!

So, my question, Steeping? Clearly I tried it almost straight away after several good shakes. What will steeping do? Does it simply improve the flavour even more? Is it OK to just vape it all now?

I will buy more flavours as they are used quickly. The Nic, PG and VG will last for ages. Is it OK to keep them for several weeks in their plastic bottles they came in?

Cheers!

It is ok to vape it all now. It will no doubt change quite a bit with steeping but if you like it shake and vape then don't feel you have to steep it. You can keep the PG/VG/Nic in their original bottles. Should be good for a year, I believe. Keep in a cool dark cupboard or fridge. Congrats.

Congrats on your first mix!!!

Steeping improves the flavor astronomically, as it allows all the flavor to mingle with the rest of the ingredients.

Nothing wrong with vaping immediately if your happy with the flavor, but let the last bit sit for a while so you can see how it gets with a little age. I tend to make a large batch once I know I like a flavor, so it can age well & get good flavor.

Most things will last for at least 12-18 months. If your keeping them longer than that I doubt you'll have any issues apart from flavor & nicotine degradation.

Everything should be fine in the bottles they came in, unless you bought them from somewhere dodgy.

Excellent! Thanks for the advice. I'm definitely going to order some more of the same flavour and some others too and start experimenting. It's good to know I can vape it now, but I'll leave some to see what happens with age.

Cheers!

I normally steep custards for about 2 months, the longer the better really.

Hi just started mixing got my stuff from Dark Star , I only mixing single flavours for now and then mix them together in small amounts to see if I like them , this may save me wasting e liquid in the long run , any one else tried this ?

I haven't tried it, but its good way to get acquainted with mixing flavours together. With your single flavours make sure you take some notes on how they taste it will be an invaluable reference once you start creating recipes from scratch. I'd recommend getting yourself set up an account on ELR (http://e-liquid-recipes.com) there is loads of information on all the flavours and you can set up a flavour stash and search for recipes that you can make with what you've got. Also check out http://diyordievaping.com it is full of DIY information.

custard is very versatile and can be used full on or in small quantites just to add body and a wiff of vanilla.
im going to guess you have cap vanilla cust.
quite often strawberry is killed with creams and custards and its best imo
to go low on the cust like 4% and 10% on the straw and cream.
creams, custards, tobaccos need weeks.
keep the custards lower and your wait time will be lower but still give it 2 weeks minimum 4 would be better.

I had no idea @Unclebilbo, thanks for that info. I'll try some different mixes now, I just got a delivery of about 10 different flavours.

Cheers!
