Flat Top and Button Top Batteries

Well this is a possibly stupid question but so what? I don't know the difference between a flat top and button top battery apart from the obvious physical difference.
So what is the difference?
What is the most common in mechanical mods?

most mech mods will adjust for both types of batteries.
more importantly go for IMR chemistry and high discharge rate on unregulated mods

These are the positive ends of the battery The one on top is a flat top the one on the bottom is a button top
I use Sony and Panasonic flat tops in my mods. High drian IMR's
Flat tops take up a little less room than a button top. The Sony 18650 VTC5 30 amp high drain batterys are flat top.
