Freemax Autopod 50

Freemax Tech have established themselves as one of the best sub-ohm tank and coil manufacturers out there, so when I missed out on reviewing the Max Pod I was extremely disappointed, until they instead contacted me to say they were sending out the Autopod 50.

Intrigue then took over.

Branded as the world’s first Double Mesh Coil Pod Mod Kit, could this live up to the high standards that Freemax have always set out in their products?

The Autopod comes very nicely packaged in a sleeved box, with all the info you will ever need on the product neatly jotted down on the reverse. I was kindly sent the red to black fade version, which if I’m honest is the colour I would have gone for had I purchased it myself.

Bonus points just for that right there Freemax!

Performance:

Build Quality -

I had some worries when I first had this to hand, I imagined it would scratch easily if dropped, it probably would. From the week I’ve had it though, taking it to work every day in my jacket pocket in a busy warehouse, smashing against desks all day and the general day to day bumps and bruises a vape device normally goes through; it’s come out totally unscathed, there’s not a scratch on there. If you hate fingerprints then you’ll find yourself polishing it non stop as they do appear regularly, but that’s a niggly issue and nothing to do with the overall quality of the device.

Usability -

It’s the standard five clicks of the fire button to turn the device on, followed by the standard up/down buttons to vary the wattage. Do note on this, the wattage increases/decreases in full increments, none of that 0.1w palaver. The fire button is very well made, responsive and does what it’s meant to do with no hassle. Same can be said for the up/down buttons, although I can’t help feeling they were cheaply made, no major issues though.

Filling -

To fill the pod you simply pull it from the very strong magnets on the device, open up the blue silicone bung and fill away. I’ve had no issues personally from filling this device, but like @BigCloud mentioned in his review, a bigger spout bottle may find some spillage.

Airflow -

One edge on the top of the pod is notched out, this in turn creates a gap for the airflow to come in when the pod is attached to the mod, a very simple idea which has been implemented perfectly. The airflow control ring is situated on the coil base, with plenty of knurling to allow easy configuration of your desired airflow. Again, no issues there.

Coil Flavour -

Out of the two coils provided, I’m still on the 0.25ohm pre installed one. It’s had just short of a week of heavy usage and there’s no sign of discolouration on the wick, no burnt taste, and no problems whatsoever. I’ll even go as far to say that these coils are potentially Freemax’s best ever ones, and I’ve tried them all. Flavour from these coils at an arguably low 30w is on par with some of their other coils on double the wattage. They really are that good.

Vapour -

As mentioned in the previous section, I’ve been vaping this device at 30W 95% of the time, I’ve tried at 35W too and have had no issues. Let’s face it, at those wattages you’re not going to get massive clouds as you would from a 100-200w kit. However, the vapour production far exceeds what you’d imagine a 30W setting to produce. Put simply, a 200W version of this device would blow clouds for days.

Final Thoughts -

I’ve had this device a little less than a week and it’s had heavy usage. I’ve been taking it to work in the morning on a fully charged battery, it’s lasted my morning vape pre work, 10am tea break vape, lunch time vape, 3pm tea break vape and I’m still going home with a half charged device. On a day off it’s different as I’m using it more, but the battery charges so fast you could top it up between vaping sessions no problem.

To put everything I’ve said in to context, the device has replaced in the past week, my combination of the Vaporesso Gen with the Kelpie RTA on top. If coils are priced right, I could quite happily shelve those two particular products.

The flavour from the device is on par with the best sub-ohm tanks out there in my opinion. If you want a solid device, that excels its market competitors, then do yourself a favour and get this product. It beats the Fireluke 2 for flavour, and that right there is where I’ll end it.

Thank you to the guys over at @Freemaxtech for allowing me to review this device. I can’t find a UK price for this anywhere, but if I were to hazard a guess, it will be in the £40-£50 range.
