Freemax Onnix.
Disclaimer: This is an independent review of a vape device sent to me for review by @Freemaxtech and is not affiliated with Planet Of The Vapes or any other organisation. The opinions here are entirely my own and I am not receiving any payment or inducement for them.
Apparently environmentalism is contagious. First it was Innokin going all green with their paper only packaging, now Freemax are going all environmentalist themselves with a green campaign of their own. They’ve called it “We vape, we save'' and it aims to get people recycling and more conscious of their waste disposal, whether it will work or not is another matter, but it’s certainly a laudable gesture.
As a fervent botany botherer myself I applaud these moves entirely and it’s nice to see that horticultural hugging is now fashionable.
Vaping itself has often been misrepresented as a bit of an environmentally unfriendly passtime too - just as smoking was beforehand - but perhaps these kinds of developments can change all that - and anything that moves us away from the dreaded Nicotiana tabacum plant has got to be a good thing.
The palm oil derived Vegetable Glycerine that’s used in e-liquid needs to come from sustainable and environmentally friendly sources though, and given that it’s not always just the creepy crawlies that are presented as pests we need to make doubly sure of that!
Besides this though, Freemax are certainly doing their bit to get their point across and the compact but ostentatious nature of their new 20w Onnix device might help with that too.
At just 26.2 x 16.2 x 109mm and 49.9g - and coming in a range of six subtle colours - gun metal, grey, blue, coral red, black and rose pink - it's both simple but has an enormous Onnix logo down one side to catch the eye.
It features a rectangular, duckbill style front-fill pod and a 3.5mm (or 2mm TPD) capacity PCTG reservoir, that pleasingly features interchangeable 1.0 and 0.5 ohm tea fibre cotton coils and doesn’t force you to throw the entire pod away as so many others do these days.
The simple side airflow slider is a nice touch and effective too.
On the power adjustment side of things each coil has three wattage settings - 16w, 18w, and 20w for the 0.5 ohmer, and 9w, 11w and 13w for the 1.0 ohm - with your choice being nicely illuminated by a little light placed neatly near the base that flashes either red, green or blue.
Conveniently you can also avoid any accidental pocket firing by turning it from a joint button and auto-draw activated system into an auto-draw only one with four clicks of the front mounted power button.
Freemax also boasts their 1.5amp Type-C charging will get its 1100mah internal battery to full capacity in 60 minutes and after testing I have no reason to disbelieve it.
Surely that’s enough to last lighter users most of the day, and even heavier ones a good while.
There’s certainly not much else to drain it.
There’s no screen or up and down buttons to bother yourself with, It really is just the LED light and whatever you draw. That’s it.
It certainly is a simple device.
It should cater nicely for most looser MTL fans and RDL users though and the six temperature combinations available from the coils should give something for most.
Unfortunately the draw’s not tight enough for you to pull your own duck-face but perhaps this is something Freemax can address in the future as Innokin did with the Sceptre.
The draw activation is quick to ramp up though and the flavour from all the coils is soft and progressive.
Freemax are noted for the quality of their coils these days and after using this device for a while I can see why.
The longevity of both coils was good and there was no noticeable drop off in the time I was using them.
The only really disappointing part of the experience was the packaging. This was all very nice - but in fact I thought it was too nice - as given they’re on an environmental drive I’d have preferred for it to be more basic.
I’m quite happy with a simple box if it helps the planet.
All in all this is a solid new release from Freemax and should do well for them.
The environmentalism is a nice touch and moving towards user education is a bonus.
They’ve launched the Onnix into a crowded market, but this is an outfit that should hold its own against most, and it’s range of removable coils gives it a competitive advantage against all but a few.
Just make sure you follow their advice and dispose of everything properly, not that I can see you wanting to for a long time to come.
This is a fine little kit from Freemax and one that I suspect yew’ll want to use for a while to come.
