Many thanks to Tina at @Freemaxtech for supplying this kit for review. Thoughts & conclusions are mine & I have no affiliation with either Freemax or POTV.

In The Box

The Freemax Twister 30 kit comes in sturdy packaging, outer sleeve has the Twister 30W image on the front in the colour of the packaged kit. Specifications & contents listed on one side, authenticity stickers on the other & company info on the rear along with nicotine warnings emblazoned front & back. Removing the outer sleeve reveals the Twister 30W, Fireluke 22mm tank & spare 2ml glass. Below the tray is another box containing a USB B charge lead, 1.5ohm MTL coil, spare O rings, MTL tip & manual/warranty card.

Twister 30W & Fireluke 22mm Tank

The Twister 30W is a stick style mod with a built in 1400mAh battery with a standard 510 thread on top & knurled ring on the bottom for adjusting power settings. The 510 has a sprung pin so will be suitable for using your favourite 22mm tank as well as the Fireluke. The ring on the base has a viewing window to see what you are setting the watts to. The power range is 7.5w through to 30w in 2.5w increments. The 2.5 being represented by 5 vertical lines, This does mean adjustment is limited somewhat but in practise the available coils have a decent wattage range so setting power hasn’t been an issue. On the base 6 battery vents are present to assist cooling or venting if the unthinkable happened. Freemax & Twister logos are directly below the fire button that also has LED lights to show battery level when firing & charging status. Turning on/off is 5 clicks on the fire button.

The Fireluke is a 22mm stock coil tank capable of accepting the Freemax COILTECH 4.0 range of coils. These are SS904L mesh coils with Tea fibre cotton formula. At the top is a standard 510 for the supplied drip tips or your own O ringed tips. The refill system is a clever take on the slide to fill as there’s a ring that needs lifting to allow the top to slide back revealing the fill port. An easy task one handed & added security in that it will not open accidently in a pocket or bag. The fill port is a decent size & large enough to allow air to escape when filling. The airflow ring around the base has two holes, a cyclops style that allows for fine tuning using the DTL coil & a single hole that can be used to select one of four holes, 3 round & the larger cyclops, providing a good MTL range. Using the outer cyclops hole you can also select 1, 2 or 3 smaller inlets or these & the inner cyclops so there’s plenty of adjustment. Unscrewing the base allows access to the push in coil & another nice feature to allow swapping coils without losing juice. As the coil is removed the juice flow holes are covered by a flap to prevent leaking, although I would recommend inverting the tank to make sure.

The kit came with the 1.5ohm MTL coil & tip pre-installed so it made sense to begin with this. Couple of drops of juice on the wicking ports& refitting the coil before filling up via the top fill, gave it around 10 min to ensure a nicely saturated coil. This coil has a wattage range of 8w-12w so now there is a slight issue. With power setting stepped to 2.5w you can’t select 8w but starting at 7.5w is no problem. A couple of primer puffs & airflow set to the largest of the 3 round holes gave me a preferred MTL vape with power topping out at 12.5w. Opening the airflow to max with this coil was actually my preferred but doing so weakened the flavour/heat from the vape. Going to 15w would have been an option but is not using this coil at it’s best. On 12.5w, 3 holes I got all the flavour I expected & a satisfying warm vape. Switching to the single hole I did get a little straw effect with the feeling of juice being sucked up. This is mainly due to me adjusting to MTL for testing & pulling too hard & not a fault of the kit. Personally, I would have liked to try the available 1.0ohm coil as I feel it would suit my vaping style better & would cope with the extra power & airflow available. Still a very satisfying MTL vape though. On to the DTL coil, quick change to 70/30 juice & a swap to the wider bore drip tip. The 0.5ohm coil is rated 15w-30w so I started at 20w. After a few pulls I soon had it set to 27.5w, airflow fully open & this was a surprisingly satisfying vape. All the flavour notes were present & the right level of heat for me. On the max 30w wicking kept up very well with no hint of a burnt or dry hit unless you run the juice too low in the tank. Using both coils on various airflow settings found them to be pretty quiet although I noticed a bit of whistling on tighter settings.

Final Thoughts

The Twister 30W kit has been a little revelation. Solid, well built & punching above it’s weight with great flavour & vape from a compact unit. This kit is ideal for the starter with it’s ease of use & good quality coils. Covering MTL & DTL in one tank doesn’t always work but this does both well.

Being a small format battery life with the DTL coil suffers but USB charging & pass through vaping means you should never run flat. Juice filling is mess free, power setting just a twist of the base ring. All in this is a kit I would recommend for a new vaper & also for someone wanting a small format vape for a quick grab & go mod.

One word of caution for anybody with a nickel allergy. Although the coils are SS904L they contain around 25% nickel that may trigger a reaction in some people.

Only other issue was not being able to fine tune power settings due to 2.5w stepping & not 1w.

Thanks again to @Freemaxtech for sending this in.

Does the wattage adjustment ring click into place on the settings? Or can it be adjusted to somewhere inbetween say 10 and 12.5w for example?

nice review mate good bit of kit for sure

can be set inbetween it clicks in every 2.5

can be set inbetween it clicks in every 2.5
Can be but difference was immeasurable & certainly on low wattage settings risk it being knocked up, or down. Also it's pure guesswork as to what you have set it to, between the clicks.

Feel like it's 2015 again and I'm looking at a revamped ego-c twist.
