I received this pre-release sample to test after a dialogue on tobacco concentrates and the lack of a good one that emulates the rolling tobacco in the green pouch with the gold and yellow text/image.
Getting it very wrong
My first mix was at 8.7% and it was way, way too strong – stupidly so. At this level I got a strong hint of DK tobacco and a somewhat harsh vape and I’d also added vodka with the result that I had a mule like throat hit.
Getting it right – tanks & cartomizers
I cut things way back on the concentrate levels to 2% and eliminated the vodka. This mix had a final VG ratio of 40% and a tobacco like throat hit that was more sensible and dialable in at higher power levels. The DK Tobacco flavour was gone and I was getting something that was very much like that famous Virginia rolling tobacco in the green packet.
This mix worked really well in tanks and cartomizers and would be my choice for these, it is rich and smooth used this way and the vape cut through the slight flavour muting these devices can have, without ever being harsh, and delivered some subtleties and a nice sweet tang at times.
At 2% though it was a little overpowering when direct dripping and if you are going to use it this way, I would use a slightly weaker mix or, better, see below.
Getting it right – direct dripping
This flavour has subtleties, but it also has some strength – I suspected it would suit VG. I made an aqueous VG solution and added the Golden Rollie at 2% and then steeped it. The final vape at 98% VG was smooth and rich and rounded – but still delivered that lovely mellow tang around the edges and was so close to the ‘real thing’. It is a very ‘moreish’ vape in this mix.
Conclusion
This is one of the best Virginia based concentrates I have used and the nearest one to GV.
The flavour at 2% in both the 100% VG and the PG/VG mix was enough for me – in higher PG solutions it could probably be cut back, but I suspect most people will find their sweet spot at somewhere between 1.5% and 2.5%.
The VG direct dripping mix was my favourite - this worked best in this to my tastes and was at its most authentic - and could easily be an ‘all dayer’ for a fan of tobacco vapes. I have dripped a large amount of this into my new IGO-L and it is really satisfying. I’d recommend fans of the famous roll up stuff give this a try when it’s on sale.
Steeping
Essential – at least a week. This turns a beautiful golden colour when ready.
Vapour
Available everywhere, but in VG mode, as you might expect – absolutely superb
Throat hit
Available in all the above mixes
Value -commentary
Unable to comment – pre-release sample
Use as a mixing ingredient
This could in small quantities (or cut) be used to tweak any tobacco vape.
It’s a British thing. Find a tobacco vape you really like and souse it with caramel and vanilla, dulce de leche or similar. I wouldn’t – it would ruin it - but you can guarantee some people will.
