Greetings everyone,
A quick introduction of myself, I'm 30 and a long term smoker, new to the vaping community. Started of with a cheap vape pen 3 months back, quickly upgraded to an Ego one because the cheap pen wasn't doing it for me. Found vaping brilliant for cutting back on my smoking habit, and now looking to upgrade my set up again because i need a bit more out of it to get me fully off cigarettes.

now to be completely honest, i first tried it out several years back with an e-cig (e-lite i think or another similar brand) and had a very bad experience which had effected me mentally. I stopped using them and never touched them again, and was very sceptical of all forms of vaping.

A friend of mine had been vaping for a while using kangertech vaping pen, and recently upgraded to a sub ohm tank setup. He was very happy with the vapour he could produce and started to talk to me more about vaping and how i should look in to it more. I tried out his setup and have to admit i was very impressed with it.

Needless to say, this perked my interest again and i started to look around the internet, and found that the old e-cigs are completely different to the e-liquids that are used today, which was a big relief for myself.
Now the more i look in to vaping and the different types of vaping, I have realised that i have barely scratched the surface.

Anyway I'm trailing of here a little....After trying out several types of vapes through friends and shops, I've decided that I'm going to get a RDA , mainly because the vapour and flavour you can get from them are amazing. I will probably get a sub ohm tank as well just for the convenience when out and about. Needless to say I'm getting pretty excited now as I will be buying it all on Thursday.

Now being new to RDAs and coil building, I have done plenty of research via the internet and friends, but I'm sure there will be lots of info that I'm not aware of, so any advice and tips would be greatly welcomed.
I will have lots of questions myself, which I'll be posting soon, but i think that's enough of me rambling on now.
I look forward to hearing from people and wish you all the best of luck.

Hi barroff, welcome to the planet.

I'm also a newbie here and in a similar situation. Tried ecigs years ago, had a bad experience so chucked them away, tried again a while back with a cheap vape pen but couldn't get on with it, then now having seen many friends and colleagues have success with box mods decided to try again. I've been going now just over a month.

I did a little bit of research and spoke to a few people before taking the old fashioned option of going to my local shop (VapeHQ) and buying their box mod (IQBox) as it had some good reviews and will go up to 100W and teamed this up with the Uwell Crown tank as i had heard good things about them and you can either buy ready made coils for a not bad price or get an RBA Deck so you can build your own, as i intend to get started with soon.

I figured this was the best way for me to start as i can get spare coils locally to keep me going should i hit any snags when attempting to build my own.

Am also looking at getting into doing my own mixes shortly to as at the end of the day, if somethings worth doing its worth doing properly

hi chalky, thanks for the reply, glad to hear I'm not the only newbie.

RBAs sound interesting I should look in to them some more. What sort of juice are using? My friend is using a brand called Grim Reaper and i think the flavor is Devil's Finger, which are sold at my local store. Its a nice fruity flavor that's not to sweet, not really a big fan of the overly sweet juices, but its a 80/20 VG/PG. Problem is the choice is overwhelming and I'm not really sure were to start, especially when comes to the choice in flavours.

Another thing, how do you charge your batteries? I spoke with a mate early today that said you don't need to buy a separate charger as long as you have the right type of mod that allows you charge the batteries directly from the mod. This got me interested but every where I've read on the internet, people say that you need to have a proper charger other wise it can lead to battery failure.

Hello @barroff ,nice to meet you Mate!!!

@barroff
Hello again.
Yeah i figured i would go with something i can use an RBA with as it means i can always use pre built manufacturer coils should i hit any snags down the line.
In terms of juice I have started off with VapeHQs own basic, the Pure range, which is a 60PG/40VG and went with a basic strawberry flavor as i do like mine quite sweet. I chose this as i didn't want to go straight to sub-ohming and they advised me this would be a good blend to go with the 1.2 ohm coil that came with the tank ( it came with 3x coils, 1.2 0.5 and 0.15). I'm coming to the end of my initial lot (i bought 4x 10ml bottles of this to get me started) and went back to VapeHQ to try some other juices to see where i wanted to go from there. I was planning to change down to the 0.5 ohm coil and again asked for advise and ended up going with the Rush brand of liquid which is a 70VG/30PG and have gone with the Legacy flavour which is a strawberry lemonade as i figured i would kinda stick with what i knew.
But as everyone will say, flavor is subjective. I would go into a shop and try a few to see what you like and experiment from there.

In terms of battery...my mod has an integral 4500mah battery that charges via a mini usb socket which they provided a cable for. I also have many of these cables knocking around from various phones, kindles etc that I've had over the years so just use these with standard plugs that i can plug these into. I was initially advised in the shop to ensure the plugs i used had a certain amp rating but promptly forgot what this rating was and just figured I'd use whatever plug i found knocking around and hope for the best. Needless to say i haven't had any issues so far. [emoji3]

Hey there. Welcome aboard! I hope you like it here as much as I do.

Personally I always charge my batteries using a charger, avoiding the "plug in" wires you sometimes get with mods. I use a Nitecore D4 charger and I absolutely swear by it.

There are a massive amount of juices and flavours that you can choose from, as well as different mixtures of juice, I'm sure you've probably read about PG/VG mixes, but it also somewhat depends on the overall setup that you go for. Added to that, it very much can come down to personal preference with taste/cloud production too. For me, I found the best way to find out what juices I liked was just to dive straight in a start trying them.

Building coils, I'd advise you do some research on Ohm's law and battery safety before you start, if you haven't already of course. I don't mean to sound like a broken record but really, it's important. I've seen so many people try to build without much background knowledge and it doesn't always end up very well for them. Be aware of exactly which batteries you use, what sort of power they/it can handle being drawn from them and such. Again battery safety, charging-wise I was always advised to use a charger. The Nitecore D4 that I have is really good for me, you can closely monitor the batteries and it will also auto shutdown once they're charged (but I'd still advise you don't just leave them in unattended, better safe than sorry.)

You are totally right though, about barely scratching the surface of vaping, it's a big wide world now. But you're down the rabbit hole now, so have fun, be safe and see where it leads. :)

Welcome again! :)
