Im looking for a little advice here from some of the modders

I've recently got into Squonking and like the looks of some of the very nice Wood based Mech Squonk Mods on the market, however thier price tag can be a little on the steep side and would invoke the Wrath of She who must be obeyed.

So my soloution to this would be to make my own, so i have been looking around the inter web and have came up with a plan so to speak.

Due to the fact i dont have an extensive array of power tools and a workshop/garage at my disposal i believe the way to go would be with wood sheets and the small amount of hand tools i have availeable.

I have already done a search and found a couple of companies that can supply wood sheets in various thickness where i would be able to shape/trim and massage the material to the desired finish with just a few basic hand tools.

So with that in mind im looking for some tips on which type of wood sheets to go for i.e soft wood like pine, balsa wood or a hard wood like oak, ash, maple etc.
what thickness to start with, i'm thinking the finished sides etc will be around 3-4 mm

Then there is the copper sheet for making the battery contacts as well as the switch mechanism, obviously i wish it to be strong enough to withstand the rigors of replacing the battery but not so strong that i can not shape it

I think that precision will be needed so you may struggle. I am not a modder but you might be better off buying a block of wood and a slice to make a door, remover the insides of the block to form a box then either fit strong magnets to hold the door on or put 2 grooves either side and at the top and tongues on the door panel similar to how floorboards fit together, box made you then need to remove some of the door panel for your squonk finger and put the hole for the 510 and switch. all this will have to be really precise or you will either have to much space inside or not enough the battery must be capable of making contact. Last thing is bending the copper to the exact shape and put the hole in for the 510.

I'm afraid i can't help you with the wood aspect but @vapesmarter could probably offer you some advice.

As for the internal bits modmaker.co.uk is your friend here, you'll need:

bottom feed 510
washer to go over the 510 (various diameters available)
Large positive nut for 510 (optional depending on design but certainly helpful)
Actuator button for mech mod
Squonk bottle

I got my copper sheet for the contacts off of e bay, just search "copper strip" i got one that was 300mm X 15mm X 0.7mm there was enough for two mods.

Hope that helps, just remeber to swot up on your ohms law if using mechs and make sure all your batteries are in good condition and rated highly enough for your builds.

As a first project I would opt for 4mm thick balsa wood as it is light quite strong and easy to do small alterations with a sharp blade, I have used this myself but I undercoated and sprayed with a high gloss finish. If you want natural wood then you need to pick one you like the look of but to practice balsa is good.

I never use balsa or pine or any softwood to practice yes as a finished product no

Go for a hard wood
