The folks at @Sourcemore kindly sent, what is a bit of a rarity these days, a new rta to review.

It’s available at the time of this review at https://www.sourcemore.com/hellvape-dead-rabbit-mtl-2-rta.html with the coupon code DRM2 for under £19.

Not having had the original version I can’t compare the two but with under coil airflow pins, juice flow control and a push/pull fit deck it’s quite different.

What’s in the nicely packaged box

Full marks to Hellvape as it contains just about everything you need out of the box to get going so it’s an attractive option for someone trying their first rta plus an extra chamber (4ml), drip tip and an extensive range of airflow pins. Available colours are black, blue, gold and stainless steel. The basic user manual and makes no mention of the juice flow control (jfc), more on that later.

Excluding the drip tip and 510 connection the height is 29mm (2ml tank) and 35.6mm (4ml tank). It’s a neat looking rta, the build quality is good and everything fits together well, the only branding is the Dead Rabbit logo on the chimney. To dismantle to clean (or change the chamber) remove the drip tip and top cap, unscrew the top filling port from the chimney so it and the glass come away, line a dot on the chamber up with one on the base and pull the deck off. To refit do the reverse using the other the chamber if swapping it.

E-liquid is fed to the wick from 3 holes at the base of each juice well while airflow is from 2 external holes to the under coil airflow pin. To open the juice flow turn the tank clockwise until it stops, and the same anti-clockwise to close. When closing you may need to hold the very narrow base to stop the tank unscrewing from the mod which is awkward to do, screwing the tank on tightly alleviates that and on the whole it works well. The jfc also opens/closes the external airflow so you can vary how far both are open. To remove the deck with juice in the tank invert it, turn it anti-clockwise so the dot on the chimney lines up with the dot on the base and pull the deck off, re-fitting is the reverse. The dots on the base are tiny so they aren’t easy to see.

Coiling & Wicking

The deck has small cut outs either side to rest a coil rod on, I used the supplied cotton and coil with an extra wrap. Fitting a coil is easy, loosen the screws, tuck the legs under them, tighten and trim, wicking is straightforward, I cut the cotton to the outside of the deck, fluffed and tucked the tails into the juice wells and primed.

Filling &Vaping

Close the juice flow, unscrew the top cap and fill through one of the two large fill ports, replace the cap and open the juice flow. I found it didn’t leak if you leave the juice flow open when filling but it did gurgle for a bit thereafter. The marked air pins can be changed on the fly to allow you to tailor the airflow to your preference from a tight to loose mtl or a tight rdl draw. I tried all the air pins and found the draw was fairly smooth, restricting the external airflow can give you a some more control over the draw. I vaped a 50/50 NET I’m very familiar with and the flavour was good, both drips are good for mtl and comfortable to use. I had no issues with leaking over the 5 days I used it for the review.

Final Thoughts

It’s a well made, nice looking rta and the included accessories are excellent, it’s easy to build on with a good flavour and draw. My only niggles are closing the jfc can unscrew the tank from the mod and the manual doesn’t cover using it but for the price it’s a pretty decent rta.

I really liked the first version and can't find it in my vape cupboard so might have a punt on this. Cheers for the review mate.
