Hello all,

hoping someone here can help!

Got a new Voopoo Drag mini a few days ago. Got it all set up using the U2 coil supplied and after around 10ml of juice I’m starting to get a burnt taste despite taking all precautions to prime the coil and not to burn it.

Here is the information I have:
I have the settings set to FIT 1
The coil is 0.4ohm 40-80w (best 55-65w)
I vape at 25-30w
I have upgraded to a 5ml bubble tank (with chimney adapter)
I have used an adapter to bring the 810 tip down to a 510 tip.
I use generally sweet juices

A couple times i have removed the 510 tip and gone back to the 810 and the burn taste disappears briefly.

would you recommend maybe using a higher Ohm coil as I vape at a lower wattage?

I have taken the coil out this evening and it seemed to have blackened already?

I know this information probably isn’t enough but would anyone be so kind as to help me?

although it might sound stupid , running high vg at low power will kill the coil as it does not vaporise properly heavier stuff and it remains there as gunk. try the minimum recommended power. maybe a bit less but to little power not good on subohm, at least this is my experience. .

Hi. When you say primed did you as well as prime the coil ports let it sit for a while first.
I typically put a drop in each juice hole and turn the coil around repeating it until they no longer absorb the drops and I can visibly see the cotton in the coil is saturated. Then its into the tank, fill and let sit for at leasy another 10 mins minimum in case there was a dry spot I couldn't see. Then I'll start, say the coil is 40 to 80, at 30 watt, take a few hits, raise it a few watt, few more etc etc till say, no fixed number personally these are just for example, I have had 20 , 30 puffs, whatever its just so the cotton doesn't get hit full on when new. Best range is just a guide for you to go to and see if you like it lower or higher. Even sweet juice doesn't kill a coil that quick. I use pretty sweet diy and typically will get at least a week out of a coil easy, often more. Chain vaping is a coil killer too, if you take hit aftet hit not giving it time to rewick you'll dry hit. Watch your coil slots when you first prime and see how long it takes a drop to absorb, usually aroundish 10 seconds to do so, give it the same between puffs and you shouldnt get dry hits.
Thats all I got. Good luck.

thanks for the reply!

My issue is that I have tried vaping at the minimum for this coil (40w) and I can’t seem to get on with it very well.

maybe I need to try the P2 coil as it’s rated between 24-28w.

I did prime the coil as your mentioned above and left the vape to sit for a very long period before using so that’s not the issue, maybe it because I’ve started at 25w and haven’t moved past 30w as I just can’t seem to get on with it.

seems like I might be needing to get the P2 coils which are rated for 24-28w.

this way I can vape at my desired wattage and not run the risk of damaging the coil.

downside is that the P2 coils are non TPD and hard to find in the UK, might have to pop in a few shops and see what they have!

No worries, you would over all be best to get a coil rated within your prefered range if you dont like the higher wattage.
Using a coil way under its rating, I wont pretend to know what it can do to a coil and what KytanDale said above may be exactly your issue, but either way it will be a very underwhelming vape both flavour and vapour wise. Your using yours at levels others only briefly use to break one in. You sound like your doing everything else right.
Give em a go and good luck with it all.

How many ml of juice roughly have you used before you started getting the burnt taste?

Put simply, that coil needs more power - the 40-80w guide is there for a reason. When you change the 510 drip tip back to the 810, you’re essentially opening airflow up. When you’re putting 25-30w through it, it’s not vapourising the liquid properly, it’ll just be kind of cooking it on the coil and condensating under the drip tip (which is why a wider drip tip helps). It isn’t designed for the power you’re using, turn the watts up or change the coil.

If you want to stick with vaping below 30w, then you do need the P2 coil you mentioned :)
