Hohm Slice issues

I've been interested by Hohmtechs claim to be able to temperature control any wire, so pre-ordered a Hohm Slice from Vapour Depot. It actually arrived the next day, so I was impressed.

Then I opened the box!
Initially I noticed the misaligned micro-USB port, then the horribly rattly thin, cheap battery door, and the paint missing from the doors edge. When using the mod the door constantly moves around and even drops off.

So I contacted Vapour Depot for a replacement- yet to hear back but it's only been 24 hours.

Then I watched a couple of Hohmtech videos to set the temp control up, and tried it with a Steamcrave Aromamizer and an iJoy Limitless with Kanthal coils that already had juice in. I tried temps around 210-230C, but after trying all the parameters in line with the Hohmtech videos (e.g. start with low FSK values), I couldn't get any temp control and fried the wicks in both tanks.
So, I tried new kanthal coils in a Griffin, and every combination of FSK curve, Auto and manual temp parameters, but still fried the wicks.
Then I put SS316L coils in, and using their standard TC it worked fine.
I then tried some NiCr coils in a Velocity RDA. This cut the power totally all the way up to 100% FSK and Max Insanity/100W, so I tried putting the temp up to 360C and finally got vapour, possibly max power. So I turned the temp down to 230C- still max power, then 150C, still max power. So I gave up and switched over to wattage mode.

I dropped Hohmtech a line with my experience, and got some advice. He suggested use the generic metal mode (xxx) instead of the kanthal and nichrome modes. So I tried that with the NiCr coils, and after a lot of different combinations of temp, FSK and not using the Auto TC mode, I finally got some temperature control. But it only worked for a couple of puffs- then it cut in too early so I had to turn the temp up, this kept happening until I was up to 260C to get a decent vape and I gave up and went back to Wattage mode again.

Oh, and every time I put a new atty on, even after pressing fire until it says "connect atomiser", it always says "Damaged Atomiser". I unscrew it, press fire again until it says Connect Atomiser, and it works.

To be honest, if the build quality was decent, it would still be a decent Mod even if it is a bit more expensive than similar chinese mods. But my £40 Cuboid is much better quality than this £60 "Special Edition".

So now I'm minded to get a refund instead of a replacement.

Anyone else got any experience with Hohmtech mods, especially the Slice?
