As a smoker I never considered using a Pipe, always felt they looked like they made me look like an old man. As a Vaper I have realised I actually like the pipes at times as they are often a little out of the norm when amongst all the egos and tubes. Anyway, when not lugging the hammer about, I sometimes use the Kamry (especially when my mates about as he also has a hammer now and we all like to be a bit individual dont we).
Until an issue earlier tonight I hadn't really given the build of the Kamry much thought, but earlier I realised why the button often annoys me on the K1000.
It may just be my batteries are a couple of thou shorter than the Kamry was built for, but if any of you using one of these find the button less than responsive, or just that there is too much travel, its a really easy fix.
The spring at the bottom of the battery tube is a bit flimsy on the Kamry. As a result the lightly suspended battery is prone to movement when you push the fire button which in turn makes you feel you need to push harder. I am heavy handed at the best of times and rather than get a non firing tote on the atty, I always pushed the kamry button harder than I needed to. It actually takes very little effort to push the button, but when you do it pushes the battery down and lets the fire button travel far enough to develop a wobble. It feels bad and doesn't make the button as nice as it should be.
The fix? with the battery out, slip a rubber O ring (the same internal diameter as the battery tube) and slide it down to the bottom of the tube. Now when you put the battery in, instead of it being suspended on the woefully weak spring, it rests instead on the O ring. The button is now 10 times more responsive and no longer feels like it is going to disappear in the housing (it wouldnt do that anyway, it just feels like it would).
Better button response, less effort before you feel genuine resistance so you know the contacts are firmly made and generally a big improvement.
I know the Kamry is an odd beast, but ironically it gets a lot of comments, and like every other pipe, it makes a damned good tool for giving directions, it is just a natural pointing device (Bill Bailey on QI pointed it out a year or two back, I cant help doing it myself now).
