Hi all,

Was hoping to get some advice please.

I've been using ecigs (cigalikes?) for around 18 months now and am looking to move on, though I'd prefer to stay away from mods and the need for too much messing for now. As such I've been looking at starter kits but aren't really sure which to go for, or even what I need exactly.

I'd prefer something that's minimal fuss, good battery life and provides a solid throat hit consistently.

The starter kits I've been looking at are:

1) http://www.totallywicked-eliquid.co...its/tornado-tank-e-nic-kit-black-product.html (happens to have 20% off atm too)

2) http://www.totallywicked-eliquid.co...ado-ego-c-e-nic-full-kit-black-2-product.html

3) http://www.ukecigcompany.com/eGo_CE4+_Deluxe_Kit_Free_P+P/p2328171_10881302.aspx

4) http://myepack.co.uk/kits/evod-starter-kit.html

I like the sound of 3, purely for the 1100mAh batteries providing a longer time between charges. Is that a deal maker though?

Which starter kit would be best to start off with? (sorry, very objective)

I currently use cartridges and replace with a fresh one when each runs out. I'd like to use a tank and refill that with the e-liquid rather than swapping out cartridges - is that how these work or would I need to pick up a tank to go along with the kit?

This may be a silly question, but when using the cartridges, after a while the strength of the throat hit fades gradually before it runs out all together. Does this still happen with kits such as those above, or does the throat hit remain the same until the liquid runs out?

Many thanks in advance

To answer you!
Go for the kit from myepack, its the same one i bought for my dad, very good value, and you should get the same throat hit consistently, you will have to change the atomiser every 3-4 weeks but that isnt a problem, batteries last about 2 hours which should see you through a working day easily.
and bear in mind you will get better vapour and throat hit than standard e-cigs!

If I could skip back 6 months, I'd skip the CE4s (a common starter clearo) and go straight for the Evod in your 4th link.

That set will provide everything you need except the juice - in fact, it's a pretty good kit, as it includes spare heads and a wall plug adapter.

Evods are good tanks, nice vape - the only thing to be aware of are that there are some juices will crack a plastic tank (there's a sticky thread in the forum to let you know which to avoid with tanks such as the Evod).

I wouldn't let that put you off, as you'll probably venture into other tanks later - and there are glass tanks you can add to the collection.

The kit in your link has quite low capacity batteries, good for size, but obviously will need charging more often, though I have a 450mah battery that doesn't do too badly.

The throat hit/flavour doesn't diminish with tanks, though vaping one flavour for some time may make it seem to reduce in flavour (just have another flavour in your 2nd tank & switch between the 2).

Just had a look matey, and 3 is what I started with. almost

Yes one battery will last all day.
Throat hit is good most of the time.
Refills from the top, unscrew the mouth piece and your in. (Fill down the side wall)
You need to vape ce4/ce5 on the tilt to keep the wickes moist.
Evods are very good, vape well, but can get messy as you refill from the base.

I find the CE4 messier - yes, you can have the odd accident when you forget to unscrew from the Ego upside down (in case you catch the wrong threading and unscrew the base instead), but the CE4s are more prone to leaking juice into the mouthpiece - especially on one I had where the centre post was off-centre. I've also had some that generated very little vapour, even on a higher voltage. Having used BCC, I wouldn't go back to top coil clearos.

Don't get me wrong, I started on the CE4 and is was amazing after the cigalike, but I think the Evod's head & shoulders above the CE range.

+1 on @Fleabag The Evod kit is the way to go, not only do they look good, they work well too, you can get a lanyard or pouch to hang it round your neck (If you need to keep it with you while your out). The bottom coil design is simple more or less mess free (barring accidently unscrewing the tank the wrong way up) and replacement coils are easy to get and fit - unlike the CE4 (where you have to fight the octopus of wicks into the tube). Personally if I Knew then what I know now Its the Kit I would have started with...

welcome to the planet.

18 months on cig-a-likes! that's some serious commitment there.

Hopefully you're in for a treat, vaping on a clearo/tank setup on a decent setup is a lot better for flavour and vapour production than even the very best of the humble cig-a-likes and cheaper to boot once you've got the batteries/atomisers.

Of the kits you list:

TW stuff is expensive for what it is generally speaking.

The UKecig set is OK but the batteries are fixed voltage and it doesn't give the ohm rating of the atomisers

the MyEPack set is OK but the resistance of the atomisers is a bit too high at 2.5ohms they will give a weaker, poorer vape than a 1.8ohm resistance head would, out of the 4 you list that's the one I'd pick

If you're going to buy a starter kit then I'd suggest you get 'twist' or similar batteries that allow you to vary the voltage supplied to the atomiser. Make sure the kit has a good UK mains plug and lead (all of the ones you list do) and only use the mains to charge the batteries from (computer USB ports aren't consistent enough)
Fixed voltage batteries are fine as long as you make sure the resistance of the atomisers you use on them is 2ohms or less, if you're going to splash for a starter kit then a variable voltage battery isn't that much more expensive and will give you a better vape in the long run as you can alter the power the coil gets as you prefer.

Lastly the mah rating of the battery (650 900 1100 etc) refers to how long it lasts between charges. But all the batteries are the same diameter so a 650mah battery is shorter than a 900mah battery which is shorter than an 1100 battery. If size (length) is an issue for you probably the best compromise between battery life and size is the 900mah version. Though I'd recommend getting the biggest battery you are comfortable holding/using as ultimately it will last longer before wearing out.

Thanks a lot for the replies and advance folks, very much appreciated!

I think I'm going to follow the advice and go with the Evod and have a look around for a variable voltage battery, glass tank and some other bits and pieces.

18 months without a normal ciggy, on cigalikes so very much looking forward to the better end of the scale.

Cheers! :)

One little snip it I would like to share.
I brought one of the for mentioned lanyards. All was well for weeks with it, until I got the end of the ego trapped. It span in the metal ring, taking the battery button clean off.
I now use the pouch, a little dearer, but worth it.

And stop knocking the ce's, set the wick and coil up properly and they vape just as good as an evod.
Just be wary of the heat build up when coiled at 1.3. :flames:
