Innokin Sensis.
Disclaimer: This is an independent review of a vape device I won in a competition. I am under no obligation to write about it at all and am doing so at my own discretion because I want to. This review is purely my own opinion and has no affiliation with Planet Of The Vapes or any other organisation. The opinions here are entirely my own and I am not receiving any payment or inducement for them.
“It’ll be in the last place you look”, that’s what they say isn’t it? It’s one of my favourite phrases and literally one of the truest.
Oddly it wasn’t always one of my favourites though and it’s literal nature went over my head for a long time. It only became a favourite after I realised it. I’m a little bit strange like that
Not everyone even wants to find what they’re looking for in the first place, of course.
Bono has made a career out of not doing so and he’s not done too badly for it.
It seems I’m not the only one that likes finding things either. Innokin seems to like it too and now they’re using a hunt as part of their marketing strategy for their new kit - the Sensis.
What they're doing is wanting you to find a code on the internet to unlock part of their new technology to get the full benefit of it, all under the tagline ‘Find F’.
In truth it’s not that hard to find though and all you have to do is join their social media groups.
It’s not even essential you do either. The kit works perfectly well without it.
So that begs the question is it even worth it, and what is ‘F’ anyway? Figs? Fondant? Fondue? Fluoxetine?
Well no, it’s none of them. As much of an antidepressant a fondant hunt would be, it seems to be that ‘F’ is ‘frequency’, and it’s all about altering the hertz the kit operates at to optimise the coil life and bring out the flavour of your juices.
This is a novel idea, and perhaps a little over complicated for some, but it ties in with two other new features of the kit called ‘Coil+’ and ‘Refresh’ which prime the coil after each draw, and refresh it through vibration to prolong life.
In my initial usage it all seems to work quite well, but I can’t yet say if it extends coil longevity because I haven’t been using it for long enough to find out.
From previous experience with these coils though I can already speak positively about their lifespan and flavour longevity as it uses the same 1.2 ohm (8-9.5w), 0.65 ohm (9-12w) and 0.5 ohm (18-20w) coils as the Sceptre.
There’s a new 0.25 ohm (25-35w) seaweed fibre ‘S-Coil’ specifically for this kit too and I can’t imagine this will be any different either.
Another addition they’ve made is to use a glass pod instead of the usual plastic, and this supposedly prevents your juice from absorbing any unwanted corrosion.
It’s 3.1 ml in size and has a rather nicely domed shape on the top, but unfortunately still features a bottom fill design rather than a more convenient top, and if you’re unlucky enough to be stuck in the TPD zone with the 2ml TPD version, it’ll come with an ugly white rubber bung pushed up inside.
If you still don’t like it however, there’s a 510 adapter in the box so you can use another tank entirely if you want.
Aside from that, it all adds to the aesthetics of the package and makes it an attractive little thing.
The whole setup is really.
The silver or black framed, padded faux leather grip on the front and sides only adds to it and some of the the colours make it look very snazzy.
It comes in a choice of five discrete or vibrant colours - Jet black, Carbon, Desert Brown, Navy Blue and Ultra Pink - that are either solid in colour or faded from bright at the top to black at the bottom.
It features a nicely embossed ‘Find F’ logo and imitation stitching side to side, and wraps neatly around a lightweight 160g, 120 x 39.5 x 30.0mm zinc-alloy frame.
The elegant and unified display and control panel is attractive too.
It’s lifted directly from the Kroma range and set vertically down one edge.
It features a large, bright screen with easily legible White text and a nicely weighted, flexible ‘fire bar’ at the top, and a small horizontal rocker button at the bottom. Underneath is a 5v 1.7amp USB Type-C charging port for the 3000mah internal battery.
It includes all the usual things like your wattage settings, your battery level, your coil ohms and a puff counter, plus your new and additional menus for Coil+, refresh, ‘Find F’ and other variable what-nots.
The box contains an array of odds, sods and sundries too.
These include various instruction manuals and hazard warnings to a spare 0.65 ohm coil, coil base, 510 adapter, drip-tip, and a USB-C charging cable.
You can even be reassured you’re doing your bit for the environment too as all Innokin’s packaging is recycled and eco-friendly these days. This suits airy-fairy tree huggers like me down to the ground, but hey, don’t judge me for it, even trees need love!
It’s in use is where this kit really shines though.
It might well be marketed as an MTL to RDL device, but it’s the MTLers like me that’ll love it the most.
The airflow closes up nice and tightly and if you want a good, restricted vape, you’ll struggle to do better.
It’s certainly one of the tightest mods I’ve used and tighter than most dedicated small pods too.
That’s not to say it’s just for MTLers though.
If you do want a slightly warmer, looser vape, the 6 - 40w range and new 0.25 ohm S-Coil will provide it, and with a fully open airflow it will give you a very respectable through current that should keep most RDLers happy.
Only the lack of an auto-draw system really lets it down.
If Voopoo can do it with the Argus I see no reason why Innokin couldn’t with this. From my perspective this is a bit of an oversight. Personally I prefer a fire button but I know others would prefer it.
The draw for Sensis could easily benefit from it and they had seen fit to include one, it would’ve probably made the whole setup unbeatable. As it is, it still ranks as my number one. It’s even close to overtaking my Kroma-Z in my affections.
The only other negative I can see here is that I wonder if the less tech savvy will be able to get the full benefit of all the technology are they not up on computers or Facebook - but then again if you’re not inclined in the ways of computers or Facebook, you’re probably not interested in frequencies and coil refreshing anyway - and it’s not as if it detracts from the quality of the vape. You still get an excellent experience even if you don’t mess about with the settings, and it unlocks itself after 6000 puffs anyway.
I’ve tried a lot of kits over the last few years and none have been perfect, but so far this is definitely amongst the best.
Overall this has been a great addition to my collection and a real pleasure to use.
I’m under no obligation to say so, I actually won this kit in a competition and don’t owe anybody anything. I’m just writing about it because I like it.
I now only have to use others for fun if I want and enjoyed it so much it’s made my rotation optionally obsolete.
So all in all, it could be said that with the Sensis, I’ve finally found what I’ve been looking for, and like the saying says, it wasn’t in the first place I looked, it was in the last. Perhaps Bono could learn a thing or two from it?
