Hi
Have been using this unit since beginning of Feb, and still using the coil already in the tank, which is not yet showing signs of 'wearing out'.

There are 3 other coils supplied in the box, one is the rebuildable coil deck, and 2 others.

It is these 2 others that this post is about. One has a red o-ring and the other has a black (or maybe it is dark blue) o-ring - are coils normally colour coded - if so, what type would these coils be? I have tried to make out the very very hard to see etched lettering on the coil body of these but way to small/feint for me to make out. I * think* I could read 0.5ohm on both. and could see other lettering was there but just couldn't read it.

There is nothing in the *tiny* manual that I can see about these - I suppose the section saying coil type would be 'automatically' detected refers to them, but I would hope that the colour coding would shed some light on them.

Is it safe to just plug them in, soak in and go?

Normally different colour rings relate to TC coils.
Not my thing so cannot shed light, can you not photo and see if you can read from that?

red seal used to be kanthal (maybe diff now) and may possibly be Nichrome either way wattage mode, black seal clapton (kanthal)

Hi
Thanks for replies.

I have found a KangerTech forum and in one answer to a question there, the reply was:

SSOCC coil is the upgrade of occ coil,it is stainless steel organic cotton coil.
It have NiCr ,Ni200,SUS316,and kanthal wire.
NiCr wire have 0.5,1.2,1.5,0.2ohm.They have red insulator.
Ni200 is 0.15ohm.They have blue insulator.
SUS316 is 0.5ohm.They have pink insulator.
kanthal wire is clapton coil,it is 0.5ohm.They have black insulator.

So, it looks like I have a 0.5ohm clapton, and a NiCr of (what I *think*) is 0.5ohm also.

I will have to post on their forum to verify those and to find out what the included pre-installed RBA coil is though.

I will also suggest they improve the manual to list exactly what the included items actually are (and suggest they make the manual larger :14:)

I am also unsure if these included coils are just plug and go, or does the unit need to have settings altered prior to use.

EDIT: I found this on their site: It is kanthal wire in RBA,0.5ohm

Definitely, not, plug and play the ni coil you will have to manually switch to ni mode and set to a temp you enjoy. Try 200°c and work up. Don't use it in wattage mode. It is not good for you. And the Clapton is obviously for wattage by you Wii probably need to put 5 to 10w more through it to get the best from,it. Be aware kanger changed their ssocc 0.5 coils
If your coil has a red band and is a small barrel shape with,2 juice holes it is natural or nicr if it's a larger barrel with a pinky, red band and has 2 large juice holes, and 1 small then it's a steel, coil and can,be,used,in,wattage and temp control.
Hope this helps

Hi

Yes it does help, you described the coil perfectly 'pinky, red band and has 2 large juice holes, and 1 small' - I can't say if it is 'a larger' one as I haven't seen both together to be able to tell. At least that one is 'plug and go'.

I will leave the black o-ring one until I need to use it and will bear in mind what you say.

Thanks @eyeball kid

Don't be,put off by the, black one,as long as the mod is set to,wattage this coil is fantastic. Lots of flavour and vapour use the same watts as you would for the,red one, and, just adjust,it up,5 watts and, give it,a go.
It's actually the blue, ring one that causes most problems as it is temp control only.
I must admit I tend to,stick to,the, red or black ones and forget temp control as.I don't find any real benefit.
To confuse you more there are some new ceramic coils out that I have been testing. They last for months and have a very clean flavour, but you have to run them, very high ie.40w. So,they eat your battery. When this one's gone I will go back to the red ones as I feel they give the best,overall,flavour/cost.
Shout if you need,any help.
All the,best.

Hi
Thanks again. I will heed your advice. I have noticed the talk of the ceramic coils, but have no interest in them at the moment. I will leave those alone (as well as the TC coils) until I get more used to these others.
