hi all, hope this is in the right place.

the fill screw on my kfl clone came with a silicone o ring, quess it is a bit fragile or i have over tightened it, but it's bust.

after some snooping around i found a forum post somewhere else so i thought i would share.

i've just ordered these 0.99p for ten

http://www.turbonoz.co.uk/imperial-bs1806/TNORNITBS001.html

i'm NOT going to try ptfe tape, slim chance but if that gets burnt on your coil it is extremely toxic

cheers

I use PTFE tape on my original KFL :)

i would say the slim chance is no chance .. its miles away from the coil :) and it DOES work.

nice one on the find tho .. defo worth an order for plus owners

the ptfe may shread on your screw threads & enter the liquid, i've just cut n paste the following :

You might want to read this before you risk getting PTFE particles on your coil!

Excerpts from The Toxicology of Perfluoroisobutene by Jiri Patocka and Jiri Bajgar.

Perfluoroisobutene ... is a fluoro-olefin produced by thermal decomposition of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), e.g., Teflon [1].

Overheating of PTFE generates fumes of highly toxic PFIB and poses a serious health hazard to the human respiratory tract. PFIB is approximately ten times as toxic as phosgene [2]. Inhalation of this gas can cause pulmonary edema, which can lead to death. PFIB is included in Schedule 2 of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC), as a result of the prompting by one delegation to the Conference on Disarmament [3]. The aim of the inclusion of chemicals, such as PFIB was to cover those chemicals, which would pose a high risk to the CWC. Subsequently PFIB, specifically, was included in the final text of the CWC.

PTFE starts to decompose at 260°C and breaks down at 350°C.

Ordered some as I seem to keep losing the little buggers. Thanks for the link.

the o-ring on a keychain screwdriver should be the right size. If you have one of them around it could save you having to order a 10-pack online.

arrived today, quick !
now, to get them on, very fiddly !
this is what i ended up doing :
get a biro pen with a removeable inside (bit with ink in)
fit o ring over point & slide along till on plastic case, remove inside bit, push fill screw thread end where the inside bit was, slide o ring back down onto thread, bingo. i spent an hour trying to find a way & pinged off or broke 4 o rings, but hey 15 left :-)

Good find on the rings .
