Hi everyone, first post but Been on the site for months learning from all of you.
I've searched here and lots of sites for this but can't find anything so hopefully you guys and girls can help.
I know about marrying 2 batteries together and have done so with two sets separately in the past but I've just bought 4 new Samsung 30q batteries. I use an external nitecore i4 charger.
Do I charge these new four all together the first time and if so which 2 should I use together? (Can I charge all 4 and pick any 2 out of the 4 to be sets)
Also, after first charge and having the married sets sorted, can I charge any 2 sets at once and does it matter where I put them in the charger?
I have a set of 30q and a set of amt at the moment so I'll have 3 sets of 30q and one set if amt.
Can I charge 1 set of older batteries and 1 set of new 30q at the same time in any order in charger as long as I use them in a married set in my mods.
The nitecore has 4 bays so would like to use all 4 as I don't have the time to charge only 2 batteries at once and always find myself running out of charge.
My mods are voopoo drag and tesla nano120.
My tanks are pyro v2 and griffin 25 mini at 0.18 and 0.24 ohms.
Thanks in advance for your replies

Just mark them something like A1,A2, B1,B2, charge together & use each pair. In a 4 bay or more charger it wont make a difference which slots you use. If you have the option to charge at different rates (0.5a or 1a usually) just charge all at one rate. All my chargers either drop to 0.5a or I can select 1a across all four. Age of batteries wont make a difference when charging.
Best practise would be A1,A2 in slots 1 & 2 etc.
Just make sure married pairs are identifyable to avoid confusion.

Thanks.
Atm I use slots 1 and 4 to charge 2 batteries. If i put your batteries in like you said a1 a2 in slots 1 and 2 and b1 b2 batteries in slots 3 and 4 I think it's an intelligent charger so will it sort out everything for me knowing there's 4 batteries in it?
I don't want to mess with it but if I have to I will try. Any experience with nitecore i4 charger or anyone else know?

I think you're overthinking this. Put four batteries in. Take batteries from slot 1 and two (as you look at your charger from L to R) out when they are charged. That's your first pair. Keep them together in a protective case.

When it comes to charging again put a pair in so that they are next to each other. I.e slot 1 and 2. The other pair into slot 3 and 4. Now you'll always take them out paired.

Maybe there is some real anal way people charge batteries but I've done this for two years and never had an issue

Thanks.

I don't want to sound mean but have you read the manual?

The short answer is that yes, if you have two batteries or four, your charger adjusts accordingly and is smart enough to distribute the charge

My charger charges all 4 bays on 0.5a or all 4 bays on 1a.
It will only charge bays 2&3 on 2a so presume 1&4 are on the same circuit and 2&3 are on the same circuit.
A paired set of batteries are just that they are the same age and used in the same mod at the same times.
Its not really got anything to do with the charger.

Thanks to everyone, very helpful advice. No offence taken over any comments I was just trying to be as safe as I can.
My girlfriend threw out my charger box and manual :/
I've just put all 4 on charge and I'll mark them a1,a2, B1,b2 and charge them as I need to but only use a married set together in my mod.
Thanks again :)

I thought I read it in the instructions somewhere. (long ago) It was under Precautions, " When charging two batteries in the i4, be sure to always place them in either slot 1 and 3 or slot 2 and 4."
What difference it makes, it does not state. But it must be under precautions for a reason.

I've moved on to the D4, but still use the 1 & 3, 2 & 4 as force of habit.
So if charging to sets, one will be in 1 & 3, and the other 2 & 4,. That way it one set is ready before the other, you can take them out and still be using the i4 correctly.

PS. before I get jumped on, I know I don't have to do that on the D4, as already said "force of habit"

I don't think it's really much of a safety concern as much as it is an ideal for pairing batteries of similar age so they run their low around the same rate, the chanrger will do it's business and charge as needed, just keep your battery pairs labelled so you can charge and run them through their lifespan together.

Ideals are one thing, but it's not like they're going to spontaneously explode if you don't(normal battery care not aside, check them and make sure they look healthy when you're handling them).
