Jhanlos from Memers sent me this directly to review for them. I am not affiliated with Memers, nor do I receive any payment, other than the device to try out, for my reviews.

The Memers Aiva A1 Pod Kit

Memers are a new company to me, and they seem to be affiliated with SKE, who I believe run the crystal bar brand for disposables. Might be a different company but SKE is on their marketing material, so I assume it’s the same people. Most of their offerings so far have been disposables as well, a few catering to the international market with massive puff counts and a few directed towards the TPD market, also with big capacities but also within the TPD regulations. They are now getting into pod kits that you can refill, and this one is the first of those I can see on their site. Memers are also very vocal on their MITS platform, which they claim to give more vapour, flavour and utilise power more efficiently. I’m not going to go into it here but have a look on their website for all the technical marketing talk if interested.

The Aiva A1 is a replaceable pod kit with a few different additions to it from the norm and it’s good to see a company that’s trying something different, even if those additions don’t exactly affect the vape you get from the kit. The Aiva has a 850mAh internal battery that charges with a USB Type C cable. It takes both pre-filled pods and empty 0.8ohm pods that you can fill with your own juice. I got the version with empty pods so will be concentrating on that. The curved screen covers the whole front of the kit and has bright digital style digits that are bright enough to see when outside for a change.

In the box you get:
1 Aiva A1 device
1 0.8ohms Aiva A1 pod
1 User Manual

Style wise it was a deceiving kit for me at first. I opened it and saw it was all tough plastic with the already mentioned curved screen and thought to myself that it looked like a disposable re-imagined to be a pod kit but when I took it out and had a proper look, I saw that it is quite different from that. The screen gives it a slightly retro but futuristic look. The retro coming from the bright green digital looking digits on the screen and the futuristic from the full bubble looking curve on the screen. The body on mine has a nice gradient colour scheme and the whole thing is nice and comfortable to hold, with cut outs on one side and some raised mesh on the other. The bottom of the device has your USB Type C slot and, differently, the airflow control, which will go from a tight draw to a restricted RDL. There’s a button on top to use the many functions and it also works as a wheel to adjust the wattage.

Now onto the functions. As I’ve said, the functions don’t all contribute to your actual vaping experience, but they are quite novel and will be good for outdoorsy people. First the vaping one. You can adjust the wattage by clicking once and then using the wheel on the button to go from 12w to 18w. It’s quite simple but good for new users as it covers the range of the 0.8ohm pod.

Next, we have an LED light. Click the button twice and an LED light will come from the front of the screen at the bottom. Turn the wheel one click right to dim the light a little, again to give a strobing light and finally one more time to get an SOS signal flashing away. A long hold on the button will let you adjust the time, yes, there’s a clock on this kit. Hold the button for 6 seconds and the hour setting will flash, then twist the knob to find the right hour then click again to move to the minutes. Same again and you’ve set the time. It keeps time well too; it’s not slipped since I set it about a week ago. Up next is a countdown timer. Press the button 3 times to get into that and the minute indicator will flash, turn the knob to adjust and set it, then click again to go to the seconds and do the same again. Once the time is set you just press the button and your countdown will start. Finally, there’s also a stopwatch function. Press the button 4 times to enter that and click again to set off the stopwatch. Then click again to stop it. For all these functions taking the pod out and returning it to the device will reset back to vaping mode.

Loads to do and not much of it to do with vaping but I have genuinely found a couple of them useful. The wee LED light has been good at night when I’m stumbling around my dark bedroom trying to get to the bed. Saves having to unlock my phone and use the torch on that. And I’ve found myself looking at the time a few times when I’m out walking the dog. Yes, you can have all these functions through apps on your phone but if you’re like me you’ll have your vape in your hand constantly and it's nice to be able to use that instead of having to put my hand in pocket and unlock the phone, find the appropriate app and use that (well apart from looking at the time, I have a watch for that but not everyone uses watches these days).

Now, after all that describing I can finally report on the most important part. How the thing actually vapes, that’s the whole point after all!

The pod is 0.8ohms so you’ll not be busting fat clouds with this device. The airflow is pretty tight when fully closed off so tight MTLers will enjoy that. It opens up in 3 gradients so you can loosen as you like and fully open it’s a restricted RDL for me, rather than a proper RDL. It also gives a nice loose MTL when fully open, maybe even just a smidge too loose for me on the MTL side, and I do like it loose but it’s very, very slightly too open if I’m honest. I’ve found closing it off by one hole still gives me a nice loose MTL with a bit better draw and flavour. And the flavour is good too, the mesh coil works well, and the flavour also comes on well, with a nice amount of vapour. RDL is where it’s at for me personally though. You get a decent plume of vapour from such a low wattage and the flavour is still good. One last thing to note is that there’s a wee pulsing rainbow strip light that pops up on the screen when you take a draw that belies the retro digital look and just adds a little but more to the look overall.

Overall, the Aiva is a good starter device that’s easy to use for vaping and has the other functions as a bonus. You will want to look at the manual for a change to get the most from it though.

From a vaping point of view, it’s basic, but works well and I have had no leaks at all whatsoever from the pod while I’ve been using it so that’s also a bonus as I always leave a pod system sitting lonely on it’s own for a day or 2 to check for that.

So far, I can’t seem to see where to buy this kit. I assume it’s coming soon though as there are a good few adverts out there on various vaping platforms announcing its arrival in the UK.

For now, have a look at the Memers site here: https://www.memersvape.com/
