Having got a KA V6 clone on Saturday and having managed to destroy it by Sunday with sheer ignorance alone, couldn't decide weather or not to buy the real thing, potentially generating divorce proceedings, and settle for an all steel tank, or go for the Digiflavor Siren which thank heavens has a glass tank. (I'm an MTL flavor chaser and certified Tank Destroyer). Thing is the KA gave IMO the best MTL vape (in my limited experience) so far, not twice as good as anything else or such, but just that "thing". Enter Merlin stage left. Wasn't disappointed when I got the Merlin, it just seemed something was lacking, which was a shame because it's got so much going for it. Super easy build deck, really well made, looks wise George Clooney/Ava Gardner compared to some tanks out there and easy top-fill to boot. Thing was it always seemed to give a kind of watery vape, whereas the KA gave a full bodied flavorful vape. Anyway surveying the wreckage of the KA noticed how small the juice holes were, so are the ones on the Kayfun 5 clones, they all handle 80/20 VG/PG juice just fine and chuck out flavor and a substantial vape, so why are the juice flow controls/ports as big as the Channel Tunnel by comparison on the Merlin? On all the videos they show the juice flow controls fully opened after filling, so Googled juice flow control on a Merlin and one of the results got me to a vendors site. In the blurb it said the Merlin has ADJUSTABLE juice flow control to stop OVER-SATURATING the wick. What's to lose? Start by turning it closed by a quarter, improvement, again, better still and no dry hits, once more three quarters turned, and? ........ the Heavens open, World Peace is declared and Sainsburys never run out of own brand cat litter again. No really, it's now giving a KA/Kayfun quality vape, in fact I'd go so far as to say it's as good as the KA and no dry hits. Ah you say, but what about the wicking, bet you changed that? Nope. No Scottish Roll, Oriental Omelette or Zanzibar Ziggurat, it's just bolt standard. I can't be the first person to have done this, it just seems strange that there's no mention of it (as far as I can see) on the web.

I use my merlin for dtl,i have discovered i have to make sure cotton is a snug fit inside the coil.If i leave it a bit slack it just can't wick quick enough.SS316l,4mm id 0.86 ohms,i think about 11 wraps. This coil is the only one i have put in and that's about 4 months ago.TC on my rx200s,250°c lovely vape i like it warm.

Hi there thanx for the reply, I noticed that the reviewer Daineil DJLsb also put a 4mm coil in his Merlin, makes sense, big chamber, big coil, (oh er titter ye not, no missus, please) the next coil is going to be a 4mm when I get a coil master. Right now there's a 3mm id .36 OHM tiger 6 wraps in there running at 25 watts, sounds counter intuitive but with the short ramp up time it gets plenty hot quick enough to give a warmish vape without being to hot.

I have my watts on 55,temp 250 it takes about a second to get warm,if i put it on my cuboid(once coil has cooled)i have to drop temp down to 225°c and 40watts both read near identical ohms. Not that i'm bothered, the new merlin mini has caught my eye as well

Thanx for the input Chris, right now I'm sitting down with three tanks in front of me. Merlin, Digiflavor Siren, and a SXK Kayfun 5. (KA V6 R.I.P.) I'm vaping each one in turn (Same E Juice) and well? Honestly they are all on a par with each other for vape quality. The only comparison I can think of is, fish! Take a good piece of Cod, if you will, you can steam it, fry it, bake it, cook it any way you want to (just like Rock 'n Roll music, any old way you choose it) if you've got good cooking utensils and you cook it right it's gonna be tasty, the process does however alter the end result, but no matter what your preference, your going to say, "that's some tasty fish". To me the tanks are the main ingredient, the utensils if you will, they directly influence the outcome. Mods are the heat source, Gas, Electricity, Steam, and make a difference to the way the heat gets to the thing being cooked, Temperature control being one of them. That being said, coils: big difference with different tanks.

Okeh, scenario,

Crap tank, Ace coil, So So E Juice, Brilliant mod, .......or, ....So So coil, Brilliant E juice, Crap Mod, Ace Tank, the permutation's are endless, Ace coil, Ace E Juice, Ace Mod, Ace tank are what we're after here.

That's what I honestly believe as an ex smoker we're all chasing, all and every one of us, all sorts, MTL, Cloud Chasers, DTL, Rip Trippers, you name it ,and the thing is we're nearly there, and the more time you, me and millions of others put in to getting "There" the better, Screw Phillip Morris/Big Tobacco and the rest, like they give a flying f*uck about our health. Shareholders first. It's good to be involved in a community that freely gives information out for the benefit of each other.
