OK, so I'm looking at my mod build and I'm thinking that I'd like to have a go at making a 510 connector.
Space and budget are an issue so I! Looking for a very small bench top lathe that will be good for cutting metal.
Any advice very welcome.

When buying precision machinery never ever go for the cheapest thing out there you will regret it. Precision costs weather its made in China or the EU. Always go for one size bigger than you think you need.
Ive made all these mistakes :)

Lathes show up on ebay quite a lot too so sometimes you can get a real bargain.

Is there an Axminster power tools outlet near you ? Or similar
If you're investing in machinery I think the chance to have hands on before you buy is valuable
I've found what looks good on a website can be cheap and plastic in reality

Thanks guys. Its a lot of money to shell out to get a decent 510. I might have to mull it over for a while.

Got ideas re 510 for boxes Seedy
When time will post up on my thread
Can get away without lathe on box long as you're not going nuts low ohms
All you need is m7 x 0.5 tap and drill press

Always interested to see ideas. I've got an idea too for a 510 so there's no fiddling around with screws to adjust them. Sort of like a floating pin. ;)

I was going to try drilling a thickish bolt from both ends to create a shoulder part way down the shaft, then 510 thread the top of the steel bolt and use a brass or copper m type bolt with some silicon or plastic tube over the m3(for instance)bolt, a small disc of insulation material against the shoulder and I reckon a little tweaking should create a decent 510 connector.
