Here goes. Original text in another thread hidden on the e-cig discussions thread.
I'm not writing this in the context that many people who've just paid for the latest "new thing" do ie, trying to justify a purchase to myself to make myself feel better about something i probably shouldn't have brought and will be as honest as I can about it.
First impressions:
Far better packaging than the V3 - you don't get the "this looks shit, it must be a clone" packaging that the V3 came in. It's a nice, well presented crisp white box with the atty in it (and the usual o-rings and ubiquitous little blue screwdriver). What else is in there, I am yet to use. There's a 510 drip tip adapter and a PMMA ring that screws onto the atty to "cool it" if that's your thing. I can see the logic behind it but to be honest, this screw in thing looks a bit cheap and would probably have looked better if it was made out of the same material as the rest of the atty.
The trademark heat sink fins on the top of the earlier versions have gone. The drip tip supplied with it is wider than the V3 and slightly conical and feels better in the gob than the V3 tips did.
For those of you that have seen the airflow holes at the bottom of the atty that feed air underneath the coils who have thought "isn't juice just going to come out of there?", the answer is yes, if you're not careful _but_ there are plugs in the spares bag to block these off if it irritates the hell out of you. Also, if you want to use a single coil, you can block one of the under coil air feeds off and leave the other open.
How does it Vape?
I'll base my comparison on the V3 - seems sensible - which I loved. Actually no, I adored the V3 and still do. It's my favourite RDA. I got a clone a while ago and within hours had ordered an authentic and within minutes of ordering that had ordered the mutation mech mod (which isn't all that but looks very good with the V3). The side airflow control on the V4 is very, very similar to the V3 - with the under coil airflow blocked off it is pretty hard to tell them apart but open the under coil airflow up and ... Well ... The airflow is ridiculous, utterly ridiculous. If you take a lung hit off it, it's almost like there's no atty there at all it's that airy (with all holes fully open obvs) which leads to massive and I mean massive clouds (I'm only vaping 50% VG and I can't see my monitor). While it's airy and a cloud making machine, it still retains flavour. Speaking of which, close the side airflow down and just use the under coil airflow and the flavour is incredible - almost Marquis incredible but slightly more airy. This was with a dual 0.5 Ohm coil on the mutation mod (pic below).
McBoffin's Verdict:
Do I like it? Yes
Would I buy another? Yes
Would I replace one I lost? Yes
Is it worth it? Yes
Is it better than the V3? It depends what you like, I can see it being too airy for some and some people might be put off by the potential to leak juice from the under coil air holes.
To sum up. If you're not put off by the negatives I've raised, ie the potential for juice leakage or the PMMA extension piece then it's definitely worth a try. About £25 for a genuine RDA isn't bad - I'm aware that cloners came up with the Mutation X V4 (and 5 and probably 97 by the time I submit this) but the build quality of the genuine mutation family is vastly superior to any of the clones I've tried and they're not stupidly priced (compared to £100+ for some atties).
I hope that's useful - it's the first time I've written a kind of review so any feedback is welcome... As is any free stuff anyone wants to send me to review if I get talent spotted ;-)
