In the latter part of 2014 e-liquid subscription boxes really took a hold in the UK vaping marketplace. The subscription box became an absolutely fantastic way for us to sample new e-liquid products that we wouldn't normally try, from new companies we’d never used before.
It’s also an excellent way for those companies to market their e-liquids to the community and hopefully get some repeat business off the back of the box.
Last year I had a look at ZampleBox from the US (full three part review starts here). The service side of the subscription service was totally dreadful, but my first box had a few stunning e-liquids which made up for the time I had to wait for delivery. Subsequently, my next ZampleBox arrived on time, however, the quality of the so-called “premium” juices took a serious nosedive in quality and the focus on my flavour profiles seemed totally lost. I cancelled my subscription, yet ZampleBox still took money from my account on two occasions following many irate complaints from me. I think it is safe to say I am no longer a part of the “ZamFam”.
I also reviewed a new UK player to the sub scene in the shape of, the Vapesandjuices “Discovery” box (full review here). I won’t go into much detail about that here, but it’s safe to say the only redeeming factor of this subscription was the padded envelope which I recycled.
The vaping community needs to have a caveat emptor attitude about them when trying out an e-liquid subscription box for the first time then. While most of these companies seem legit at face value, some more unscrupulous types may see entry to the sub box business as the chance to make a quick buck from a quickly expanding industry.
This brings me to My Sizzle Box and Salivape – both companies offer a fairly similar value proposition, both are reasonably new faces in the sub box crowd. So, how do they measure up?
Today in Part One, I’ll be focussing on the monthly deal from both companies. Later on in Part Two, I’ll review the e-liquids in My Sizzlebox. In Part Three I’ll be delving into the e-liquids from Salivape.
Let’s take a look at what both subscription companies offer then:
MySizzleBox:
What’s the deal? For £24.95, once per month MySizzleBox will send you, “The world’s biggest brands and elusive artisan e-liquids, so you can discover exciting new flavours at the best possible price.”
The subscription box arrives with up to five bottles, or 50ml of e-liquid every month and is nicely packaged in a sturdy box which is just the right size for your letterbox. There’s no need to sign for anything, so you won’t get a Royal Mail red card and have the awful realisation (again) that you must trek to your nearest post office to collect the box.
MySizzleBox includes a “risk free guarantee”, which basically means if you don’t like what’s in the box you can send it back by freepost and get a full refund. That’s confidence for you!
You can cancel the subscription at any time. If you don’t cancel the boxes will keep on coming.
As a member you qualify for further discounts off stocked e-liquids down the line.
What’s in the box? As with all subscription boxes this changes every month. MySizzleBox send you e-liquids from the UK, Europe and the USA – you’ll see brands such as Digbys, T-Juice, Mrs Lords, Halcyon Haze, Vapetrik, Carpe Diem Vapor, etc. You get the idea.
How much will I save? Although the cost for each e-liquid is approximately the same as if you buy direct, you will save a big chunk of money on postage charges.
