Morning guys,

Im a bartender and im interested in creating something different, new and completely unique.

Vaping has made me quit smoking for 12 days now and I think I should give something back.. im looking at using techniques from the bartrade to make something that noone has done before in vaping. My idea at the minute is to steep a nicotine solution with a variety of botanicals and then cut it with gin and mix it with whatever vg/pg mix works best with it, then age it in a sherry cask for 30 days. If im wrong, tell me so... if not your the first people on the mailing list. (On me, providing you give a review!)

I need to know what to order and where to order it from!

Cheers
Dave

David - good idea but:

a) Anything with sugars in it is going to create a problem in vaping - sugar caremelizes on atomizers. That will probably apply to aging in Sherry casks - these are used to provide colour and can impart some flavour. Botanicals would require some care too - strong alkaline and acid products need avoiding as would anything containing something like diacetyl and other 'nasties' - what the body can safely inhale is not the same as what's safe to ingest. That applies to alcohol too - vodka and pure grain alcohol are used to provide extra throat hit - at over 5% though it can be pretty huge.

However - whilst the above might be seem to be widdling on your bonfire - it's just a caveat. There are some flavours that go well and there are hundreds of flavour concentrates available that are specifically produced for vaping - including most drinks flavours. These are stronger than those used for drinks and cooking; bringing your bar mixology skills to vape mixology will I am sure let you create some fantastic flavours and hopefully - we'll see some fantastic vape cocktail flavours from you.

Well done fella, from what i can presume, people order some sort of concentrated nicotine solution, then cut it with whatever they fancy and flavour it afterwards... im trying to do something genuinely artisanal and you are my first response and my first mail order! (on me)
From my knowledge beforehand im cutting a 96 mg nicotine solution 50/50 with pg and then 50/50 with gin to give me a 24mg solution.. but now im thinking that my flavor should only be ?5?%?

Errr peeps don't discuss 96 mg/ml nicotine bases on UK forums as the legal limit here is 75 mg/ml - above which you need a poisons licence. Which country are you in?

Your final solution (pre flavours) would indeed be 24 mg / ml - but at 50% Gin it might be like Hitlers final solution. Well maybe not that bad but really unvapeable.

Welcome davidmarshall. Vaping for 12 days and getting into mixing. Very ambitious but be careful. Have a look at the mixology section here and the eliquid calculator. You mention 96mg (9.6%) nic base. NB the legal limit for sale in the UK is 75mg. Bryan123456 makes good points about the need for care with ingredients that seem appropriate but ain't.
Have a good read around :)

There are egs of juice matured in barrels used for other products. See here http://www.houseofliquid.com/product-p/et-guevara-res.htm

Bryan123456 has been involved with mixing quite heavily and is a great source for a wealth of information.

Like he said, anything over 75mg=Illegal and/or requires a license. We don't discuss illegal on the forum due to liability and the fact that we do not support any type of illegal activity at all. I know how the "vaping bug" can bite and it gets people SUPER excited and creative, but as a 12 day vaper, you have a lot of reading and educating to do over the next few days. It will not be as easy as you think it will be. I've only been vaping a year and I still don't know enough to go beyond the boundaries of the "norm"!

Gawd, I hate to sound like such a party pooper, but our beloved hobby is at risk of being banned and things like this, only add to the concern the Nannies and the EU have and can cause more harm than help. We're in a very delicate state right now!

This is not a Get Rich Quick Industry, the amount of competition out there can quickly shut down a small start up business.

BUT, there is a positive light in all of this... your creativity as a bartender would be extremely beneficial to you when it comes to mixing things we all ready know to be safe for vaping! That alone is a huge plus as handmade e-liquid using safe ingredients for vaping are very popular!
