Hello all!
I’m new here and also new to the vape world! I wonder if anyone could give me some good advice around coils and flavour!

I smoked Marlboro cigarettes for around 15 years. One day, on the spur of the moment, I walked into a vape shop and left with a Uwell Caliburn AK2, some A2 pods and a few nic salt 10mg liquids. I’ll be honest, I haven’t touched a cigarette since.

i was so impressed by the AK2 that I didn’t feel the need to carry on smoking. The flavour produced was lovely, the vapour was good and the simplicity of the device was just great.

Really enjoying my experience I recently purchased a Voopoo Drag S pro as I felt I wanted something a little bit more complex and bigger than the AK2. (I’m still using it though). The chap in the shop told me to use PNP R1 coils which are 0.8 ohm as I like MTL vaping. They carry watts between 12-18 and rather than use the TPP-X tank, use a PNP pod tank instead.

After a day of vaping on the drag S with the 0.8 coil, filled with 10mg nicotine nic salts 50/50, I felt like I wasn’t really getting much flavour compared to my AK2 on MTL. It felt like I was taking more plain air than anything, despite me restricting the airflow to the pin holes only.

i went back to the store and they suggested trying a VM4 and VM1 coil. I’ve not tried the VM1 yet but I still feel that the VM4 isn’t giving me enough flavour, especially compared to the AK2 with MTL. (Still using 10mg nic salts).

What coil or juice would people recommend to get absolute flavour for the drag s pro on MTL. Do I try a higher resistance coil, 1 ohm or above, change my juice or do I go lower? Maybe I’ve set my standards too high and can’t replicate the flavour on the drag compared to the AK2.

sorry for waffling on, if you’ve got this far. Thanks! Any advice would be great! :)

Hi @Jake12 and welcome to POTV. I don't personally do MTL with that device, so can't help, but I am sure there'll be plenty of help on the way. Good luck!

Hi @Jake12 and welcome to the planet.

like above i hardly do MTL and dont touch nic salts as i vape continuosly all day with standard nic at 3mg.
ive also not used any of the kit you mentioned so are not much help really :) but hopefully someone will be along soon to advise.

ps
we like waffling on as youve explained mostly all we need to know unlike some who just give a one line help me and we have to ask so many questions before we can help.

Hi @Jake12

Welcome to POTV and thanks for the detailed post, it does truly help.

Ok, i see this alot with newbies, we get a pod kit hopefully one that we like and we use it with ic salts, everything is great but as always we want more, bugger and better, that constant thrill of the chase, been there done that. Personally i stick to smaller pod kits as i like the tighter draw they offer but i do like a bigger battery! The thingbis we get so used to that first kit that its hard to break away from it. I started off with the original caliburn and nearly 3 years on im still using thise type of kits, my favourite is the Aspire Favostix atm, been using it on and off since released. Great pod life, 1000mah and so reliable, ive had 2 as my brother wanted my first one that i reviewed, its the only kit that i have bought after reviewing and ive given tons away

Ok, so if you really want to give the Drag a good chance then maybe try TR1 in the tpp tank its a higher resistance which is what u need but i am not sure if it will be tight enough as the AF on the drags isnt as tight as the caliburn.

Let us know what u decide and if you end up wanting to buy something else let me know.

And please ramble away, we all love a good natter! X

Thanks for all the replies so far!

@DeeDee aka (Pod Queen) I visited my local vape shop today, unfortunately they don’t stock TR1 coils. However, the guy there tried my Drag with a blueberry ice 50/50 10mg liquid in it with the VM4 0.6ohm coil and agreed he couldn’t taste it either. He suspected it was because I was using ice flavoured liquids and suggested one which wasn’t ice. So, I ended up buying one without ice and kept the VM4 coil in.

I’ll be honest, this still doesn’t deliver much flavour for a MTL experience.

i went to another shop and they suggested trying a non ice flavour with a VM1 coil (I already have an unopened VM1 coil at home). I haven’t tried it yet, but surely less ohms from the VM4 will have even less of an effect than the VM4?!

do you think I should be using different liquid ratio’s? Higher PG? Or should the 50/50 be sufficient that I already have?

will the TR1 coil really offer more flavour than the R1’s I already have?

The TR1 is a mesh coil by the look of it, so there is a good chance it will produce a stronger flavour even at low watts.
