Hi all, this is very much a noob question so apologies in advance..

I'm a 20 a day smoker who has dabbled in vaping for a year or two with little success. Previously I have always used standard nicotine juices. I've now got some nic salts as I'm hoping that will be better in helping me kick the cigs. I went to a local shop and they suggested ohm brew 18mg. After trial and error (plexus coil was awful), it seems to be working well with z-coil 1.6. I am using a zlide tank on an innokin adept, which works for me as it limits the setting options.

My question is, a lot of the online shops sell nic salts at 10mg or 20mg. In my head, I read 20mg as a stupidly high level. But 10mg seems to low. Should I be going for 20mg?

If the 18mg is working for you then stick with 18-20mg but if it's too strong and 10mg is not enough then buy a bottle of each strength and mix them together for some 15mg

Stick with the level that suits you. 20mg or 18 will be fine. If it’s making you nauseous or light headed then it’s too much. If not then you should be absolutely fine.

At this stage it’s all about staying off the cigarettes.

Stick to the 20mg until you don't miss the ciggies, the thing is you're not taking in as much nicotine as you think compared to sub ohm vaping, it's like a micro hit so high nicotine is better for quitting ciggies.

I use 20mg nic salts in my pods and mtl tanks, for sub ohm cloud chuckers I use 3mg.

I've tried 10mg nic salts but I found I needed to vape more often.

You never need to apologise for a noob question, it's what we are all here for and started with the same questions, live and learn then eventually pass on your experience to others - that's how it works in a nutshell.

I've learned a wealth of information from other members and still learning.

Welcome to the forum and ask ANY question on your mind.

If the 18 is working for you, then you won't notice much, if any, difference by using 20.

20mg isn't that high in the grand scheme of things, it's just the highest you can buy in the UK nowadays - 50mg+ is still common in the US for example.

Nicotine levels are an odd one though...

The 'average' cigarette contains 12mg of nicotine - some are as low as 6mg, some are touching 20mg - that's PER CIGARETTE.

20mg e-juice by comparison, fill a 2ml tank and you've got 40mg of nicotine in there. In other words, that's the same as about 3 1/2 average cigs (just without the tar etc. and far far less of anything else).

In neither case though do you take in all the nic present - you exhale some (and with cigs, some disappears as it burns down).

From that, it would appear that to equal 20 fags a day you'd need to go through 1.2 little bottles of e-juice. In other words, 6 fills of a 2ml tank.

Taking into account most people only actually use about 1/2 - 2/3 a fag (passive burning and butt considered) and you're maybe down to 3-4 fills using 20mg juice, or almost one 10ml, 20mg bottle per day.

But that's irrelevant

Find what works, ditch the fags.

Stick with high nicotine levels until you are fully confident that you never want to look at a cigarette ever again. Only then should you try cutting your nicotine intake gradually.

Stick with the high nicotine until well clear of the ciggies, then you can look at reducing the nic level if you so desire. Some have no desire to quit vaping and happily continue vaping high nic in the mouth-to-lung style. Some reduce the level a bit and others move to lung hitting with very low nic.

The biggest problem I see with people trying to make the switch, is the over abundance of clueless vape shops selling smokers big smok kits with 3mg nicotine, no wonder they go back to smoking. Maybe that isn't the case everywhere, but where I live it is rife.

I believe I started on 24mg over 5 years ago, this was before the 20mg limit.

I use 35mg nic salt daily in my mtl rta and occasionally 50mg in a pod system. So, no, 20mg is not "stupidly high". Use whatever works. All that matters is that it keeps you from smoking.
