I am quite an avid watcher of juice reviews from reviewers that I trust but I'm rarely drawn to review myself...much less where I actually don't like it much..and this is the case here.
As many will know, although my taste in eliquid has expanded since I started vaping, I still enjoy a tobacco vape. My mainstays are those authentic leaf steeped creations from House of Liquid for that pure tobacco goodness or when I want something sweeter those gorgeous sweet tobacco based juices from Manabush.
Menthols? hardly ever unless I have a cold.
Fruits? Only if balanced with creams or custards
There has been a trend of late towards 'premium' juices, some with ridiculous price tags, and I've taken a punt on some of them. They're not all mega pricey but they often are only available in 30ml bottles with pippette style droppers and so it's a risky affair pressing that buy button and as we all know, taste is subjective, meaning a popular eliquid receiving rave reviews does not mean you won't taste donkey wee. And when thinking about price in the context of dripping or using low ohms/high wattage the volume of eliquid used increases alongside the cost
On the whole I have had more hits than misses I'm glad to say.
This one is a miss I'm afraid
Before the likes of El Toro cigarillos and puros came along the range of good tobacco juices was extremely limited. I managed to get some good ones from across the pond (expensively but then I was vaping 18-24 mg at 3-5mls a day) but mainly we had to make do with the Hangsen/Dekang efforts with names like Dunelm and Lembit the Butler. I recall one particular juice that got hugely gushing reviews. I wish I could remember the name of it but almost all of the reviewers referred to that 'just opened packet of cigarettes taste'. I tried that juice myself and its an accurate description. It didn't taste like smoke. Thankfully nothing does. But if you imagine opening a pack of Bensons and smelling the tightly packed filtered cigs inside, it tasted like that.
Which brings me to Perino Gold which is described as 'The signature Perino Blend of tobaccos, enhanced with deep notes of caramel, vanilla and creams'. I haven't seen any reviews of this one so it was a gamble. I can't use it in my drippers because I deliberately chose the 18mg option for my tanks this time. So I can't say if that would improve the flavour but I doubt it. To me, this juice has the same flavour profile of those older 'tobacco' liquids. And I'm disappointed. Yes its quite well rounded in the sense that the vape is a little creamier (not much) with a vague caramel note too. It does say 'deep notes' so I shouldn't be surprised I suppose that they are barely noticeable. Another juice it reminds me of is Benson & Hodges, a popular choice a while back, which never hit the spot for me either. This juice also leaves a strong reminder of the flavour in your mouth for quite a while afterwards a bit like the taste of drawing on an unlit Bensons.
Ive posted a picture of the three juices I got from the range. The East India is an amazing flavour and for me will be an occasional drip experience. The Cream Berry is very nice (though not exceptional) and has gone down well with the other half. All come in at £12.99 for 30mls which isn't excessive in my view
As I write I'm still chugging on the Gold, hoping to find something a little more positive to say....but it ain't coming.
