Hi everyone,

I know that a lot of people here (or at least the ones whose stories I know) turned to vaping to give up smoking and have been successful. I do know others vape with 0mg nicotine and are quite happy with that. I also know that vaping is a lot better for you, even with the nicotine, than smoking, but I wondered if people could share some of the other benefits of vaping in general.

I am disabled with a number of chronic conditions, two of which are responsible for causing me quite a lot of pain. One in particular, causes my muscles to cramp frequently and sometimes they get stuck in a "loop", I suppose that's the best way to describe it, where my foot/leg/knee/whatever will cramp up and twist into an unnatural position, stay there for a few mins, then uncramp and then start all over again. When I was smoking, one of the only ways to get the loop to end was to have a cig. It's one of the reasons I struggled so much with NRT and stopping smoking because it just didn't give me what I needed when dealing with this particular issue.

So, now that I'm vaping, I'm finding it easier to control those loops without having to inhale the rest of the crap from cigs. I see that as a big positive because it has a big effect on my mental well being as well. I know that there are drawbacks, like the fact that I am still addicted to nicotine, but I did a little experiment when trying to find the right nic level for my juices. I started on 12mg with the plan to go down to 6mg if I could...it didn't quite work that way.

When I got my first run of cramping, I vaped and it took between 3-4 mins for the cramping loop to break. I had a particular bad night/day and had finished my bottle of 12mg and so started an 18mg one just to see if it help. God, it was like someone had pushed a button to relax my muscles, it was awesome! Just to be sure, when my foot went into a loop earlier today I did the same thing as before, I vaped through it and within 60-90 seconds the loop was broken and I was feeling better.

So, yup, for me this is a positive thing and I won't be going back to cigs because I can get the benefit I wanted from vaping...please realise I'm not saying everyone with my conditions should use it or whatever, it just works for me. I'm not a doctor and can't speak for anyone other than myself...

So, what are some of the positive health benefits for you guys? (Besides the obvious not smoking ones)

Joey

After smoking for 30 years and moving on to vaping the first thing I noticed was within a couple of days, my wheezing chest had completely stopped. But since stopping the fags I have piled on the weight.

since I stopped smoking I can breathe again and taste plus i used to suffer migraines and now I hardly get them - plus at least 5 times per year I would get bad chest infections over the winter - this year i've had one cold and it was very mild in comparison and menthol eliquid helped a lot

I've had one mild cold this winter compared to 5/6 last winter. And it didn't give me a bad cough for 2 or three weeks after the cold had gone. Really chuffed

What I like about vaping is it doesn't completely wreck my home like cigs did, overflowing ashtrays burn marks clouds of stench stains etc etc. I find with vaping i don't cough all the time and breathing seems easier, though if i use higher pg this has bad effects on my chest, so i try and use higher vg much as i can.....definitely not really cheaper if youre upgrading all the time

- I used to smoke outside, I now vape indoors and thats a big plus for me.
- I no longer cough up shit in the mornings.
- I can run without feeling like I'm going to collapse.
- My chest doesn't make that wheezing noise anymore.
- I feel healthier.
- I feel happier.
- I've made new friends.
- I've got something to show for my money.

Just to list a few. :) Oh and MsJoeyBug, nicotine actually has health benefits apparently.

Good to know :D

I don't see your nicotine addiction as a drawback ! I understand where you're coming from but it's only made out to be a bad thing by people with no comprehension of it, it's been dressed up that way for so long now that it's difficult for people see it in a different light.

For my part, it makes me happy & it took a while experimenting with different ways of vaping before i hit my niche but now i want to carry on.
I'm not suggesting either that anyone should see vaping as anything other than a quit smoking solution that they can wean themselves of gradually, indeed it can be done with the choices we are given in nicotine strengths, we can control it more but i'm not showing any signs of stopping right now...Not done yet. :ape::grin2:

Nicotine has plenty of potential health benefits. They seem to be focused on relieving inflammation and auto-immune diseases like Alzheimer's and colitis.

It also improves concentration and promotes feel good hormones like dopamine. This is what gives a buzz with smoking or vaping.

Even the World Anti Doping Agency is reviewing their stance on nicotine because they recognise that some athletes might be getting performance benefits from it, related to blood vessel production. (Of course they never really *needed* to have a policy on it in the past, because until they invented patches, gum & vaping, people couldn't get it except by tobacco - and Olympic athletes don't tend to do that.)

It's true that a lot of the reasons I see the addiction as a bad thing is because people have made be believe it is. A lot of the time when I was trying to quit smoking, it was because other people wanted me to, and sometimes because I wanted to, but with vaping, I'm getting the benefit of the nicotine without the bad stuff as well, so I'm happy and although I'm on 18mg now, I like that I have the choice to go down (or up) if I want to...all in all, it's a win/win situation for me.
