Hi, I've been vaping for about 4 years now, my current set up is

Deathwish Modz Leviathan (dna250c) run on VW mode
Smok TFV12 Prince Tank with 0.14Ohm mesh coils at 65watts
HOhm run XL 30A 21700 batteries
I prefer an airy, cool DL type of vape

I've decided to give an RDA a go and have bought a Suicide mods 28mm Nightmare RDA.
My questions are

It would seem from searching, if I'm right, that Ohms law is not so much of a problem on a regulated mod,
I'll be using pre-made coils to start, so is it ok to put two Wotofo 0.28Ohm coils, giving me a 0.14Ohm set up in this RDA or is it better to go for higher Ohms.

My premade Smok coils have a recommended wattage range, How do know what wattage range is best for a given RDA coil, pre built RDA coils seem to have no recommendations, is it trial an error?

I want to stay with a regulated mod for the obvious safety reasons. Will running a 0.14Ohm setup stress the batteries
in a regulated mod?

Thanks in advance, for any advice you can give, it will be much appreciated.

Hi @Seismic and welcome to the planet.

cant help with rda's as dont use them but plenty do so will be along to give advice soon.

Yer fine man. Dont worry about ohms law on a regulated mod, once u get everything built, start at probably 30-40 watts n go up 5 watts at a time till u get yer sweet spot

Battery is fine, i use those also

Hey mate.

You're right. Regulated mods can take lower ohm builds no bother so I wouldn't worry too much about it unless you're going really really low. You should still use batteries with an appropriate amp rating though and I can see that you already are.

With the wattage for these builds it all depends on the coil to be honest. A big, fancy coil will need higher wattage than a simple round wire so again you're right, it's all trial and error. You can get apps or go to steam engine website to calculate your coil and get a rough idea though if you don't want to just fire the coils up and see where you like it. I use vape tool app on Android to give myself an idea of how high to set wattage on builds I've not tried before.

Mostly been covered already but just to add; there are many variables. Wire type will effect how much power is needed. Kanthal heats slower and cools slower than Ni80 or SS. So SS and Ni80 in my experience can be run with less power. Type of coil well effect power. If they're fused clapton, how many cores are there - 2? 3? 4? - and what gauge is the wire? Some coils will run nicely at 40w and others may need 120w. As suggested in an earlier post - start low and just gradually work your way up. Won't take long to find the coil's sweet spot and what works best for you and the type of vape you like.

There's no right or wrong answer really as long as you're within your batteries capabilities. You're in very good hands with a DNA250C.

This thread explains how to calculate amp load on a regulated mod....

And welcome to the forum @Seismic :)

Thanks for the replies and advice, much appreciated. The RDA has been sitting there for the last week without being touched because I wanted to make sure I had the facts before attempting to do my first build.

Hi and welcome :D

As others have said it's a bit of trial and error here, my guesstimate would be above 50w, probably closer to 70w to get a nice vape. If you are used to cool mesh coils you may not be a big fan of wire coils and high power, it usually gives off a pretty warm vape. You can combat the warmth with plenty of airflow and slightly lower power though, you just need to find a balance between the heat, air and ramp up time and you'll get it in time.

Just a quick update.
I did my first build on the RDA, using the dual Wotofo dual core fused claptons, it came out at 0.15Ohms.
It didn't look too bad considering it was my first attempt, it was a little bit fiddly getting both coils into two posts, but got there in the end.
Started off at 40 watts and built up to 70.
The RDA seems quite airy opened up, so it doesn't seem too hot for me, it does gurgle a bit though, maybe that's down to me putting too much juice in to start with.
It produces a lot more cloud than my Smok and the flavour is definitely better.
Thanks again to all that helped with advice.

It's an under coil airflow on that RDA, right?

If so the gurgling is most likely a little bit too much juice in there, it should stop after a few good draws on it.
