Just finished recoiling the head of my Protank 3, dual micro coils, cotton wool wick, 1.7 ohms. 3rd attempt. Have to say this has made the Protank 3 much better, but still not quite there yet.

Yet to try that. Are they easy to recoil?

No they are a buggers to recoil. Next to no info on how to do it on the net either. Think I have worked it out though. When I get more access I will probably post what I did.

looking forward to read your 'how to' ive tried but found it very hard with 2mm silica and 0.2 kanthal. They work but gurgle like mad. coils in parallel are a bugger to get above the 1.3 ohm limit on my vamo. coil1 x coil 2 / coil 1 + coil 2 :-(

I know what you mean! Spent a fruitless hour trying to recoil the aspire heads and didn't manage one that came in at over 0.7 ohms. Gonna order some thinner wire and try again!

I will do another build and add photos but in words this is what I did.

I built the micro coils on a 1.5mm drill bit, any bigger and its hard to make them fit without shorting. 10 coils of 0.2mm Kanthal leaving the coils with long tails. Got each coil compressed and straightened using a mini blow torch. I then stacked and joined them by turning the legs together, this is the fiddly part and needed the help of forceps clamping each end in place before twisting the legs together, I left a very small air gap may 0.5mm between the coils. Once this is done you can treat them as a single coil. I added cotton wicks before installing them in the head, leaving them oversize, this helped hold them in place (they can drop too low and short). I added some extra cotton on top of the wick so the channel was full, I then trimmed the wicks to size, these should be easier enough to wick with 1.5 silica as well. Finished dual coils ended up showing 1.7ohms on my Vamo.

Yeah have to admit I've bought the coils and silica to make my own coils but the double coils kinda scare me, been putting it off! Lol a how to video would be most welcome!

I gave up in the end and bought a pack of 5 for £7.50 off ebay, resonable i recon, such a shame coz i can re coil my single coils lovley.

Just managed a rebuild of the new aerotank head. Used 0.15 kanthal, came to 2.1 ohms.
