so i'm about to order some kanthal from stealthvape. at the moment i have .28mm and i've been using it to rebuild both my protank heads at 1.8ohms and my rebuildables at between 1ohm and .6ohms. with the protank i'm having to smoosh 10+ wraps into the little cup which is a pain in the arse and i'd also like to go lower on my mech mod and get in on the crazy sub ohm vaping that goes on here but with the .28mm any lower will mean hardly any wire. so basically i want to buy 2 rolls of kanthal, one for rebuilding protank heads and one for rebuilding my rda's. any advice is welcomed.

cheers.

For what it's worth (as I know that you'll do what you like anyway, regardless), IMO the easiest and best way to get you head around Kanthal, sizes, and what to buy, is to learn the "ohms per inch" for various gauges, and forget number of wraps. Once you understand what resistance you are going to get with a given length of wire used for the coil, the world is your oyster, and you can build coils however you fancy, and know that, regardless of form or size, if X amount of kanthal is used, the resistance will be x ohms.
For example, if somebody tells you that 4 wraps of 28awg gives you 1.5 ohms, it doesn't mean that the coil that you build, with 4 wraps of 28awg, will give you 1.5 ohms, unless the length of wire in the coil that you build, is exactly the same as the length of wire that they used.

good idea. i've had a read and ordered .32mm and .50mm. i'll see how i get on with those.

Try

Kanthal A1 Wire

Good wire and VERY cheap

And
Vapers toolbox app on an android phone is fracking ace for working out what you want to do coil wise

As someone who is about to get into the world of dripping I have wondered what size wire is best to use for a newb. What wire would anyone recommend that is easiest to work with? I will have an Igo L so I will only be making a single coil and not going the sub route - about 1.5 - 1.8 will be the lowest I will go.

i was going to order some but my mate's just given me a load of protank and aerotank heads because he can't get on with them. i'm good for those for a while so i thought i'd get 2 lots for my drippers.

With the .5 kanthal, I find ten wraps around the little blue handled screwdrivers that come with clones, gives .2ohm dual coil. I like it as it gives lots of wick coverage whilst still being suitably low resistance, it also gives aeesome sturdy coils. :)

The .32 is great for sitting around .6 - .8 ohm using the same screwdrivers as a mandrel.

Obviously you can go to a 3mm screwdriver to increase resistance.

I'll reccomend .25mm - .28mm wrapped around a 3mm shaft. Use cotton as a wick..
Easy to start with.
Then when you feel more "at home" with the whole building do dar.

SUB OHM with .6mm :diy:

Stay safe Dyl

As I like to float my coils around the 0.8 to 1.2 ohm mark I've found 0.36mm kanthal to work great. It's thick enough to make coiling easy and stand up to threading the wick with my lump hammer fingers but thin enough to make attaching it to the deck easy to.
