This review is about the Zap by jRob3rts this was sent to me free of charge as a field test.
My opinions are my own and in no way represent this website Planet Of The Vapes.
jrob3rts sent me this little monkey as a field test for a new wire joining device.
You will only need one of these devices if you use a rebuildable atty that requires res and no res wire, although I have found that it has improved my coils of devices not normally requiring such - notably my spheroid - also it has improved vivi nova heads that I have re-wicked myself enormously
Primarily tho, I am using it to rewire eBaron Killer/Spiral heads.
The device is a simple black box with 2 buttons (on and off and a charge button) and two outputs terminating in crocodile clips. One of the outputs is mounted straight up from the top of the box .. which means you dont need as many hands and is a nice touch - although this can be replaced with a lead (supplied along with a discharging resistor should you need it .. nice additions) if you require more lead length.
The Zap also comes with a sheet with safety advice, instructions some useful notes.
To use the Zap, (this is my method) take a length of resistance wire and clip it into the uprighted crocodile clip ... take some no res wire and clip it into the free wired clip ... turn on the device with the main button, then press the charge button for roughly 2-3 seconds. Let go of the charge button then touch the wires together (recommend a 2mm overlap).
Boom! big spark .. two nicely joined wires .. repeat with other side.
It can take practise not to jump when the spark happens and rip the wires apart .. but you soon get used to it.
To say this has made my recoiling life much easier is an understatement .. I happily say and rewired 20 Spiral heads the other night, so much easier without wire wrapping .. and leaves more room inside the spiral ceramic.
The Zap is a neat little device ... and deserves a place on any rebuildable fans shelf.
At a price tag somewhere around £30 (James correct me if I'm wrong) supplied with a battery (ive yet to run out of battery power!) it wont break the bank either
Thoroughly recommended.
