This is a personal review of a product I bought. The opinions expressed here represent my own and not those of this website, planetofthevapes.co.uk
Introduction
I have been considering a hybrid style mod, and was made aware of a few options, as a result I bought the Sigelei 8w and an iAtty Genesis Style RBA (reviewed in another thread), as the Sigelei 8w looks very similar to the EHPro Caravella clone and the fact it comes with both 18350 and 18650 tubes, I decided to buy this mechanical mod.
Vendor - Grey Haze
Price - £29.99 (£27.00 after POTV member discount)
Out of the Box
Very shiny!!! The 18350 tube was attached to the top and end caps, with the 18650 tube in a separate box. Not as weighty as the EHPro version but a nice weight in the hand, you know it is there
Construction
Excellent top cap feature… It splits into 2 parts so if you want to use ego threaded atomisers, you can. There is a chamfered edge on top so my iAtty and RSST didn’t look bad, but an Evod and CE5 looked a bit strange perched on top.
In 18350 mode the length is 68mm and in 18650 mode 98mm, diameter is 23mm which is a bit odd considering most tanks are 22mm.
Sorry but the perspective of the pictures isn’t very clear, shaky hand syndrome...
Base button throw is almost 3mm and this is quite stiff, you cannot just use your pinkie (well I can’t!!) and it has a slight wobble, this I will try to rectify later. Also I think the stiffness helps so that the device does not fire when standing on its end with a tank attached, even when the locking ring is not used.
The threads when attaching the top and end caps are a little noisy, but this I expected, a little noalox sorts this out but you do need to be careful to ensure you use the correct threads. The copper/brass top and end caps are quite dull but these are easily polished too. It was not stated on the vendors site the materials used in construction but with some investigation I believe the tube bodies are constructed from steel and the caps are probably copper (due to the softness of the metal). There are two 2mm battery vent holes in the end cap.
The Vape
I used a RSST with a 1.2ohm SS mesh wick, the vape was really good, I even tried my Kanger Protank which also has a SS mesh wick, and I can only say I enjoyed it!!! Throat hit and flavour were better than expected…
When you build your own wicks with SS mesh and get it 'just right' for you, personally I am at 1.1/1.2 ohm, it can be a beautiful vape. This is something which you cannot do on a VV/VW device as most are regulated and will not work if your coil is 1.2ohm or less.
Conclusion
1 = Rubbish to 5 = Acceptable to 10 = Perfection (all are subjective)
Cost = 8
Size = 7
Vape = 7
Looks = 7
Quality = 6
7 out of 10
Great mechanical mod for the price and it is a lovely looking piece of kit. The size and weight are great even for outdoors use; it fits really well in the hand when in 18350 mode, which I prefer.
However for those who have never tried mechanical mods, if you don’t like to polish or play around with the throw button or just fiddle with stuff, I would not recommend this type of tube mod. You need to clean them on a regular basis to ensure you don’t have voltage drops and to get YOUR perfect connection you need to be aware of the changes you may need to make to hot springs and pins etc.
BUT if you want to go down the mechanical mod route this is a great starter… you can play happily with 510 and ego connection tanks, learn more about finding your perfect setup to vape.
