"This is a personal review of a product I bought. The opinions expressed here represent my own and not those of this website, planetofthevapes.co.uk"
I received my SID today, I ordered it from UK Ecig Cabin on the evening of the 7th of May and it arrived today so good service from them, effectively 1 day delivery. I paid £45.05 including shipping after using discount code AAEC for a 5% discount.
The device comes packaged in a nice but simple box with a picture of the device on the box.
Inside the box the device is protected in a plastic sleeve and cradled in a SID shaped slot in a dense foam rectangle.
There is a small and folded paper guide included, I would have liked a slightly larger manual with bigger text. Nothing else comes in the box.
The first thing that hit me when I took the SID out of the box was how light it is which is not unexpected as it is made of aluminium. It weighs just 76g and even with a Torchy 18650 battery in it is weighs just 120g which is less than a Vamo without a battery (Stainless 125g - Brass 135g). The lack of weight can sometimes give a perception of cheapness but the SID feels solid enough once the battery is in it and to me the lightness is a bonus as the Vamo is a heavy beast.
The diameter of the SID is 23mm and it is 129mm long. Speaking of the diameter, the internal diameter of the battery tube seems to be right on 18mm maybe 18.5, my Torchy batteries just fit and my smoktech batteries fit easily thought not loosely. If I remove the cap the smoktech batteries slide out slowly and the Torchy batteries require a light shake to get them out.
I got the silver model and the fit and finish is very good. Where the head meets the battery tube and the cap they are nearly perfectly aligned and I struggle to feel the join with my finger tips which is more than I can say for my Vamo. The surface has a slightly rough texture and doesn't show fingerprints the way a chrome or polished mod does but it does have a nice sheen to it so it is not too dull. It looks pretty much identical to the marketing photos. The threads are a little rough just like the outer finish but I have had no problems screwing the parts together. The battery spring is adequate but I would prefer a more robust design akin to the Vamo V2 hot spring though I don't anticipate the standard spring will be a problem. I have checked and the Vamo Spring will not fit without alteration as the spring diameter is too wide.
The terminals are simple affairs. It would be nice if the centre terminal for the atomiser was spring loaded.
Three quick presses on the button take you into a simple menu system with seven options
1. Volts/Watts Up - 3 to 15 in .5 increments cycles through
2. Volts/Watts Down - 3 to 15 in .5 increments cycles through
3. OUT - On/Off
4. Battery Voltage - Displays current battery voltage
5. LCD Display - Select what shows on Screen when button is pressed - Resistance/Battery/Voltage or Wattage
6. LCD On/Off
7. Watt Voltage - Select between Voltage and Wattage
The settings are saved when the battery is changed. Option 3 turns off the button so it doesn't activate in your pocket but it doesn't appear to be possible to turn the device off fully other than removing the battery.
All of my atomisers fit and fire fine, I think it looks good with my Octo.
All things considered I am very happy with the device at the price. I like the single button design though some may feel it is more difficult to change settings I prefer it to multiple buttons as it mean I cannot accidentally change the voltage/wattage.
I hope you find this review helpful.
