If dripping is something commonplace in your life then please skip a paragraph. Or go to the STD clinic. Either way the ensuing paragraph isn't really for you.
Let's put this into context, I have been steadily more attracted to dripping as a purer form of vaping over the recent months. As I'm sure you're aware, the heroin you buy from street corners just doesn't rack up to the primo gear you can get by going straight to the source. It's like that with dripping compared to, say, your Evods and Protankalikes. Only there are less skanky whores hanging around the places you get your atomisers from (unless you are buying them from Planet Of The E-Cigs in Wrexham, of course). Dripping is all about maximising the flavour and vape you get from your juice
When it comes vaping in general I like to take long, deep draws filling my lungs and holding before the exhale. This often causes problems for me if the coil is kicking off loads of heat and the silica I'm using at the time isn't wicking fresh juice fast enough. To date I've been playing with different diameters of wick in order to prevent dry hits which I've even had on the Kayfun-Lite. The joy of dripping is that I have always been able to lob in more drops directly to the coil to counteract the ebbing of flavour regardless of this. But wouldn't it be nice to have a wick capable of holding more juice?
I've never used Ecowool before, there is a side to me that says if it ain't broke then spending time and money on a potentially fruitless exercise is a nonsense I can well do without. It has just occurred to me that this is such a snappy little phrase I'm surprised no one else uses it. I've been slightly put off at comments such as the taste it adds to the vape and being a chap who doesn't like how mesh/SS wicks seem to strangle juices I decided to give it a miss. Receiving a little sample pack from Stealthvape's Rob has given me the opportunity for a play as there's no way I'm working outside the garage on Midnight's wooden holder in the rain today.
You can see the size of the wick I'm using in the picture above, it's folded over at the coil but flares out and around the base of the Igo-L. Unlike the poking and prodding I get up to with silica wicks I found the Ecowool to be an absolute breeze to prime then encourage into the well. The width of the wick lends it a rigidity preventing it from springing back up the second you address another part of it. It appeared to be far easier to fold back on itself as well compared to multiple strands of silica - even where it was flared the strands agglomerated quickly with a dab of Snake Oil. Go on, use that word at least once today in normal conversation with someone stupid.
I've been hitting this solidly for the last four hours, lungful after lungful. The Snake Oil bottle dropper lets fly with huge big drops of juice compared to the plastic dripper tops on juice bottles. I'd normally lob in ten normal-sized drops to a silica-based wick and be left with excess in the bottom of the dripper. This wick is soaking up ten dropper-sized juicy pearls with ease, not just engorging itself with goodness but doing it rapidly - there's no waiting around I'm dripping and going instantly.
The flavour I am getting off this is as good as any I've had previously, I'm not noticing any additional taste to the Snake Oil whatsoever. Whether or not this will be the case for everybody could only be estimated by the review ZT is set to do on POTV as I remember that he has commented upon such an issue in the past.
Despite my raging addiction to the chain vape the wick hasn't missed a beat until it starts to run dry. I have to say here that this has been an outstanding success as far as I'm concerned and one I fully intend on repeating; I'll be adding this to my next order.
If I have a bad word to say about this wick then it's limited to the fact that it is wicking so well I'm going through juice at a hitherto unprecedented rate. That, and I now have a load of different-sized silica that I'm not sure what I'm going to do with.
Rob observed that his wick spread a discolouration from the coil which cleaned up quickly with a little water rinse. The above photo shows a close-up of the wick after I removed the cap from four and a half hours of vaping. The coil has remained clear of cack and there is a negligible movement of carbon deposits into the wick.
In summary: I'm impressed with the ease of use, the flavour, the wicking and juice holding capacity. For anybody interested in trying this out then Stealthvape are selling 1m of 5mm Ekowool wick at £4.25 on the website.
