A long long time ago I had a phantom brass Stingray. It was a thing of beauty. Unfortunately mechs made me nervous so I traded it. I missed it. I bought a three tube black stingray kit in a billy bargain clearance from myepack I think it was. It was not so lovely. It worked. And it was very pretty.
There is something about the look of the stingrays I really like.
As many of you are no doubt aware, once a vape need lodges itself in your psyche it needs feeding. Mechs do not scare me, I fancied a copper mod. I don't like the look of copper mods, but I wanted to see why copper is so highly regarded. I also wanted to scratch my hybrid itch.
A lot of reading on hybrid safety, a brush up on ohms law and battery safety, and a purchase full of eastern promise sees a copper lined brushed stainless skinned Stingray X with a choice of hybrid or floating 510 top caps winging its way to me.
Unfortunately a Snowwolf 50W landed on my mat at the same time so a quick check that all was in its box and the Stingray was sidelined while I played with the new box of electronics.
Fast forward a couple of hours and out comes the build crate.
A hasty 0.7ohm dual coil build on the Freakshow mini. Wick it up, drop it on the 510 and pop in the supplied Stingray tip and off I jolly well chug. Nice! Smooth button, lovely engraving, decent punch for a mech. And then my bravery takes over. I screw the hybrid ring onto the Freakshow, and scrutinise the positive pin. It's protruding. Not a massive amount, but enough to safely keep it clear of any shorts.
Verdict, copper mods, with a hybrid connector in my limited experience are more powerful than stainless steel. Not by a massive amount. But worth having. I'm not convinced they are much better than an aluminium mech though.
On the other hand, the most subjective bit. It looks bloody gorgeous!!
The Stingray itself is really nicely made. Smooth threads. A nice button, not a long throw, practically a hair trigger. But enough resistance that you can set it down without doing up the locking ring (don't ask me how I know that)
The joins in the tube are invisible once assembled. Nothing crunchy, smelly or ill fitting. It's smashing.
And I like the drip tip
