The folks at @Sourcemore kindly sent me the latest in the Puremax pod kit series to review. It’s available at the time of this review at https://www.sourcemore.com/yihi-sxmini-puremax-q-kit.html with the coupon code YSPQ for around £16.

It’s similar to the original Puremax (which I’m a fan of) but in a different form factor with a bigger battery, a fire button, haptic feedback, enhanced dry hit protection, support for the 0.4ohm pod and revised button controls. (Due to size issues I had to crop some of the images quite a bit to so apologies as some of them are on the small side).

What’s in the box

1749831067007.png

Puremax Q mod, PX25 Pro 2 integrated 0.6ohm PCTG pod, rdl and mtl 510 drip tips, a type-C usb cable, a good user manual, first time filling instructions and a warranty card.

Two pods would have been nice and it’s odd having put a lanyard hook on it one isn’t included.

Specifications

H 60mm (excluding drip tip), W 51mm, D 19mm, weight 74g (with pod), power up to 30 watts depending on pod resistance, 1500mAh Lipo battery, type-C 1A charging, draw and button activation, adjustable airflow, temperature control anti-dry hit technology, low-liquid/refill alerts, compatible with all PX pods.

Colours

It comes in 7 colours, I received the Mystic Gunmetal one.

The Mod

It’s very tiny and light, nice looking and about as pocket friendly as you can get. It appears to be zinc alloy, feels well made, is nicely rounded and fits in the palm of your hand. The battery section has branding on each side, the section containing the pod has airflow adjustment at the front which is stiff enough not to move accidentally and the button and 4 green LEDs on one side. The LEDs display the battery charge level, the selected preset wattage and warnings. The base has a 1A USB-C charging port, it has pass through vaping and should take ~ 90 minutes to fully recharge, the LEDs show the charge level.

I found the button isn’t well positioned for firing it so I just went with draw activation which works very well, if the positions of the button and the airflow were swapped it would be fine. Both activation modes make a buzzing sound but aren’t really noticeable when vaping.

It’s a simple mod to operate, the settings are retained when it is turned off.

  • Five clicks turns it on/off (it vibrates and buzzes)
  • Four clicks enables you to set a preset power level for a pod by pressing it to toggle through the 4 lights/levels (3 for the 1.2), after selecting a level leave for a moment and it will exit. The levels are:-
    • 1.2 pod -11.5w, 12.5w, 13.5w
    • 0.8 pod -14w, 15w, 16.5w, 18w
    • 0.6 pod -15.5w, 18w, 20w, 22w
    • 0.4 pod – 22w, 24w, 26.5w, 30w
  • Three clicks disables/enables button activation.
According to the manual the lights/alerts consist of:-
  • Low battery - 1st LED blink 6 times
  • Low e-liquid – short vibration and 1st and 4th LEDs blink 10 times
  • Refill alert – long vibration and all LEDs blink ten times
  • Short - 1st LED blinks 8 times
I tested the low e-liquid and refill alert warnings using the supplied 0.6ohm pod. I put the pod in without filling and it wouldn’t fire. I found the low e-liquid alert came on but it was after the flavour told me I needed a top up and the refill alert came on very soon after and it wouldn’t fire. I forgot to open the jfc after leaving it closed overnight and the same thing happened. So while it worked by the time it did I already knew from the taste.

The PX PRO 2 Pod

1749831144143.png

These are the latest PX 316L SS mesh pods, previous versions include the black ones, the blue ones and the PRO, the latter also has juice flow control (jfc) but a fixed drip tip so it’s great you can use a different one with the PRO 2. The capacity is about 3ml or so, the ohms and wattage range are on the base, recommended juice ratios are up to 70VG for the 0.4 and 0.6 pods and 50/50 for the others. The e-liquid level is visible though the MIN line is very low down and isn’t the easiest to see.

To fill remove the pod, close the jfc, otherwise you can’t open the slide up side fill door, fill through a membrane (you need a narrow tipped bottle), close the door and open the jfc. With the rdl drip tip you can just turn it to close/open it, no idea why but the mtl one doesn’t so you have to turn it with your fingers as you will if using your own. Juice flow control does makes it more complicated, especially for inexperienced vapers, but was added to solve the leaking issues reported with the early pods and is a good feature if you’re not going to use it for a while or are travelling. A pack of replacements 1.2ohm PRO 2 pods I bought came with the mtl drip tip inside which was nice though the box says it doesn’t.

How Does It Vape

I expected it to vape very well and it does. I used my usual adv 50/50 NET in a 1.2ohm PRO 2 pod and the flavour was very good and the airflow control lets you tailor the draw well. Over the week I used it for this review I’ve had no issues with leaking when vaping or filling or when I left a pod in the mod with the jfc closed overnight. My experience with the black PX pods is they last a very long time before the flavour fades so the PRO 2 pods should too.

Final Thoughts

It’s a very dinky and light pod kit that has very good flavour, great coil life, no leaking and I like the form factor plus the increase in battery capacity is welcome though the e-liquid alerts only confirmed what my taste buds already told me. Niggles are 1A charging is on the slow side, button firing is awkward to use and you can't turn the supplied mtl drip tip to close/open the juice flow.

While not perfect it would be my choice out of the 3 available Puremax kits and for the price it’s very good value.

Great review I've got 3 & love my black/green & orange I prefer them to the original version just because they are more compact
