is this the world we live in

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Two insane American things come together: (1) the moral and now legal panic about vaping; (2) the casual violence and extreme escalation propensity of routine policing. <a href="https://t.co/3Av8N8AJ2f">https://t.co/3Av8N8AJ2f</a></p>&mdash; Clive Bates (@Clive_Bates) <a href="">June 14, 2021</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Jesus, that's insane. How can they get away with that?

Been a few similar incidents recently. https://www.vice.com/en/article/93y34e/cops-caught-on-video-tasering-a-teen-for-the-crime-of-vaping

What upsets me is their bog standard damage control PR. Unrepentant. They'll just carry on and the next time they get caught they'll copy and paste it from the same word document.

“Our officers are permitted to use force, per their training, to overcome exhibited resistance. All uses of force go through a detailed review process,” the statement reads. “The uses of force from these arrests will go through a multi-level examination by the Assistant Patrol Commander, the Division Commander and then by the Office of Professional Standards.”

Not good however it looks to me like his hand came down and went towards his backpack strap, if you check at 0.05 he moves his hand down and could have been going for something. the taser sound come after this happens.

It’s trending on Twitter but it seems that the police thought he was going for a concealed carry

however 3 police 2 shouting get down on the ground 1 saying take the backpack off the result is what you see

on that boardwalk vaping is a fine they had reports of someone using a vape however it draws a conclusion can you fine someone for carrying a mod in a backpack and not in his hand

I’m open minded about it all but the level of force is incredible for a spot fine offence

edit

there is another video related to this of the arrest of another man on the same grounds I haven’t put the link to that but you will see it kneeing the guy repeatedly in the side whilst being held on the ground is permitted apparently…

If I was tasered like that, I'd probably break what's left of my lumbar spine and die. Looks to me like the chap was reaching for the backpack strap to take the backpack off. No excuses to taser the bloke imo, shoot first ask questions later, comes to mind. Madness.

That's the problem in a society where everyone expects everyone else to be armed and every cop expects to be shot.

Sorry, but the guy was clearly told to get down on the ground - NOT reach behind your back. As usual this is a social media special that does not show what occurred before he got zapped. Maybe the cops were being bullies, maybe it was a case of the guy refusing to i.d. so the cops could give him a ticket or record a 'first offence warning' and events escalated from there.

One thing everyone should realise in a society where the police are armed is - if you are stopped by a cop for any reason - keep your hands where they can be seen and for fucks sake don't put your hands in your pockets or reach behind your back.

at least he wasn't shot. @Jd_ as you are our overseas neighbour, what do you think?

A bit too much.

Read about this. Absolutely ridiculous and OTT. Police should be sued.
